Lake Forest Animal Hospital, located on the outskirts of Lynchburg, Virginia is a small animal veterinary practice offering general practice, emergency, surgery, and dental services. Its team of veterinarians has a wealth of experience, one of whom — along with the practice manager — has been working there since it first opened. To date, many of its clientele have been bringing their pets to Lake Forest just as long for all of their veterinary needs. Lake Forest Animal Hospital has gained a reputation for its excellent care, recently earning the Lynchburg Living Bronze award for their level of dedication! Our close knit, family oriented, skilled and experienced team of doctors work extremely well together and we strive to provide schedules that work well for each member and their families.
We are looking for a dedicated and energetic Veterinary Assistant to join our team in a fast-paced small animal hospital. The ideal candidate is passionate about animal health, thrives in a busy clinical environment, and is committed to providing high-quality care and excellent client service. This is a hands-on role working directly with veterinarians, technicians, clients, and patients.
Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries
Safely restrain dogs and cats for exams and treatments
Prepare and sanitize exam rooms, surgical suites, and equipment
Administer medications, vaccines, and basic treatments under supervision
Collect and process laboratory samples (fecal, urine, blood, etc.)
Monitor animals pre- and post-surgery or during hospitalization
Maintain accurate medical records and logs
Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, and clinical areas to hospital standards
Provide compassionate care and handling of pets, ensuring their comfort and safety
Educate and support clients with pet care instructions, medication administration, and discharge information
Handle clerical duties as needed, including phone calls and scheduling
Minimum 1 year of experience in a veterinary hospital or animal care setting preferred
Knowledge of animal handling, basic medical terminology, and veterinary procedures
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a busy environment
Comfortable working with animals of all sizes and temperaments
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods
Excellent communication, teamwork, and client service skills
Dependable, punctual, and flexible with schedule
High school diploma or equivalent required
This role requires working in a dynamic, high-volume setting where critical thinking and calm under pressure are essential. Exposure to animals, bodily fluids, cleaning agents, and occasional emotional situations is expected.
