About the Department of Learning and Engagement:


The Department of Learning and Engagement (L&E) at The Museum of Modern Art supports the Museum’s founding educational mission to ensure that people of all ages and abilities “enjoy, understand and use” the art of our time in ways that add value to their lives. The department collaborates across the organization to empower a diverse public to form their own interpretations and connections to art by telling stories, asking questions, actively making and participating in the artistic process, and offering and listening to multiple perspectives. Programs offered by the department range from artist-driven activations to classes, online courses, studio programs, facilitated gallery explorations, workshops, publications and more.


Position Summary:


The Museum of Modern Art is accepting applications for the Emily Fisher Landau Fellow to work directly with the Family Programs team in the Learning and Engagement Department. The person in the role will gain hands-on experience coordinating the administration of family programs, outreach initiatives, interpretive resources, and hands-on spaces for kids and families. The Fellow will be trained to teach Family Gallery Talks, to design and deliver a range of programs, and to develop written resources and activities to engage families. This is a two-year fixed term position with a Tuesday through Saturday schedule. The Fellowship is expected to commence September 2026 and conclude August 2028.


Reports to: Assistant Director, Family Programs and Initiatives


Responsibilities: 



  • Assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of weekend and school break family programs, including gallery-based and art-making experiences, films, story times, and community partnerships

  • Supports the launch and ongoing operation of Art Lab, the Museum’s family-focused interactive space, including preparing resources, testing activities, organizing and tracking supplies, observing visitor engagement, recommending improvements, and communicating updates to staff.

  • Liaises with Learning and Engagement, Membership, Visitor Engagement, and Communications staff to support family and community engagement initiatives.

  • Coordinates outreach efforts with New York City Department of Education contacts, community-based organizations, and partner institutions; helps organize on-site and off-site visits and supports partnerships, including with the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families (CHCF).

  • Supports marketing and outreach communications, including researching content, drafting copy, coordinating with editors, scheduling communications, and building newsletters and email campaigns.

  • Helps manage public inquiries via phone and email; coordinates communication and scheduling for contractual and temporary staff.

  • Develops surveys and evaluation tools; collects, analyzes, and reports on program and visitor data to inform planning and assess visitor and institutional impact.

  • Collaborates with Interpretation, Research, and Digital Learning staff on the development of Museum-wide family engagement resources, including kids labels, audio experiences, activity guides, and other interpretive materials.

  • Participates in training to develop art museum teaching practices with the potential to facilitate Family Gallery Talks and other family learning experiences.

  • Conducts ongoing archiving and records management for family programs and initiatives.

  • Performs other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.


Qualifications: 



  • Bachelor’s of art, science, or fine arts in art history, art or museum education, fine arts, or education.

  • A basic knowledge of modern and contemporary art/artists. 

  • Experience in program support for public events, learning initiatives, or educational environments, with a preference for those focused on children and families.

  • Exceptional communication, organizational, collaborative, and writing skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment.


Desired Skills:



  • Knowledge of Excel, Klaviyo, Adobe InDesign, Figma

  • Ability to speak Spanish and/or Mandarin

  • Some museum teaching experience is preferred
