The Landscape Manager is responsible for the maintenance, design and upkeep of all landscaped areas on this resort, under the supervision of the Facilities Manager. This is a "hands on" position with leadership and management of a staff tasked with maintaining the Resort’s unique Southwest native and natural landscape. Effectively trains, communicates expectations and management performance of subordinates. Continuously inspects field work to ensure Resort standards are being executed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for the management of the landscape team to include hiring, discipline, training, and performance management.
  2. Determines work requirements, activities, and related work schedules. Trains skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labor in various aspects of landscaping and using of tools and machines.
  3. Designs, installs and maintains irrigation systems, seeding, pest control, and fertilization, etc.
  4. Supports the Facilities and Operations Manager in the preparation of annual budget for the department and is responsible for meeting the approved budget.
  5. Purchases landscaping supplies to include equipment, plant material, tools, fertilizers, pesticide and related landscape materials.
  6. Ensures that the Landscape Team is adequately trained in safety procedures and usage of the Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s). Participates in the Safety Action Committee as requested.
  7. Develops and implements policies and procedures (e.g. SOP’s) applicable for landscape maintenance.
  8. Provides back-up support to the Projects Manager and the Facilities Manager; assigns Landscape Team to Maintenance tasks, as needed. Assists with Maintenance projects, as needed.
  9. Consistently models and integrates Core Values; accountability, authenticity, diversity, excellence, gratitude, happiness, integrity, mindfulness, respect and teamwork.
  10. Coordinates and cooperates with all departments in terms of landscape and seasonal needs to further and enhance the ‘Ojo’ guest experience in terms of aesthetics and safety.

Requirements

  1. High school diploma.
  2. Degree in Horticulture or related field, a plus.
  3. 3-5 years’ experience managing a landscape operation of similar size.
  4. Strong leadership, communication and organizational abilities to manage a cohesive operational team.
  5. Well organized to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  6. Proficient with MS programs (Outlook, excel, word, etc.).
  7. Experience in design and installation of gardens.
  8. Knowledgeable of Southwest and desert plants and trees and water limitations, a plus.
  9. Knowledge of seasonal planting, a plus.
  10. Irrigation experience, ability to program and adjust hunter and rain bird clocks, ability to design irrigation systems.
  11. Must have an entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to constantly improve our landscape department and grounds.
  12. Must have experience in landscape design and installation of gardens that includes a palette for season color and practical design of small to medium landscape projects in our region.
  13. Proven safe operation of related landscape power equipment.
  14. CPR and First Aid Certified (or willing to be certified.)
  15. Ability to work holidays and and weekends. Ability to work five days per week and a workweek of approximately 45 – 50 hours.
  16. Ability to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb ladders, climb stairs, push and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
