POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Language Program Manager, the Language Assistant will support Hualapai language revitalization by assisting with language classes, presentations, documentation and archiving, interviews, creating language learning materials, and encouraging real-world application in a positive environment. Training may be provided for certain duties, but the candidate must demonstrate required skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assist the Language Program Manager and language teachers in organizing and holding language classes, including planning, outreach, and implementing classroom activities.
· Develop lesson plan and language learning materials for a wide variety of students, including youth, adults, and elders that are at varying levels of language proficiency, including beginner to advanced.
· Develop and share outreach materials for language programming.
· Integrate Hualapai cultural aspects into language materials, classes, and presentations.
· Assist Hualapai tribal members and tribal staff with language questions and research.
· Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, teachers, and parents.
· Contribute to a positive and supportive learning environment by demonstrating cultural competence and promoting inclusion.
· Assist with record keeping, taking notes, documenting program statistics, and archiving
· Assist with interviews with elders and Tribal members to document language and related cultural histories.
· Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Hualapai language fluency and understanding.
· Have knowledge of Hualapai Tribal history and cultural practices/beliefs.
· Experience in teaching the Hualapai language, and creating lesson plans and language learning materials
· Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of individuals and groups.
· Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
· Experience with computer programs (Canva, PowerPoint, Word, etc) to develop various documents and language materials.
· Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
· Have skills to comfortably and efficiently work both on a team and independently.
· Must be dependable, honest, responsible, and willing to learn. Job requires being careful about detail and thoroughness in completing work tasks in a timely manner.
· Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
· Must be 18 years or older.
· Must have a valid driver license and be eligible for the tribe’s insurance.
· Must have a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.
· Submit to and pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and random test thereafter.
