Veterinary Technician
Greenock Farm Veterinary Hospital is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Equine Veterinary Technician to join our large animal team. As an Equine Veterinary Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinarians and ensuring the smooth operation of our practice.
Job Description:
- Assisting with handling and restraining horses during examinations and procedures.
- Preparing examination and treatment areas.
- Administering medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Assisting veterinarians during surgeries and medical procedures.
- Preparing surgical instruments and equipment.
- Cleaning and sterilizing equipment after procedures.
- Monitoring anesthesia and recovery of horses.
- Assisting with diagnostic procedures such as X-rays, ultrasounds, and blood tests.
- Collecting and preparing samples for laboratory analysis.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient.
- Inputting data into computer systems and databases.
- Communicating with clients, scheduling appointments, and providing information about treatments and procedures.
- Answering phone calls and addressing client inquiries.
- Assisting in emergency situations and providing first aid as needed.
- Cleaning and maintaining the veterinary facility, including stalls, exam rooms, vet trucks, and equipment.
- Assisting with administrative tasks such as billing, invoicing, and managing inventory.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
- Previous experience working with horses is required
- Veterinary assistant experience or relevant animal care experience is a plus
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate demeanor
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks and work in various weather conditions
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and procedures
Must be comfortable working with animals of all sizes. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
