The primary responsibility of the Laser Operator Apprentice is to learn how to produce precision parts using laser cutting machinery with guidance from experienced operators. This includes ensuring the correct materials and machine settings are used per job specifications, retrieving materials using a forklift or crane, loading programs onto the laser control system, making adjustments as needed, and monitoring the cutting process for accuracy and quality. The apprentice also inspects finished parts, removes them from the machine, detabs them as required, and organizes or stacks them according to work instructions.
Key Responsibilities
Learn to retrieve raw materials from inventory using forklifts or cranes to support job orders
Learn to stack and file laser‑cut parts to maintain organization and support workflow
Load programs onto laser cutting machinery and assist with troubleshooting cutting issues
Monitor the laser cutting process to ensure accuracy and part quality
Detab laser‑cut parts and prepare them for downstream processing
Inspect completed parts for defects and verify conformance to specifications
Follow laser department procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements
Assist with basic adjustments to laser settings under supervision
Proficient math skills for interpreting dimensions and measurements
Ability to multitask and manage several responsibilities at a time
Ability to retain and apply technical knowledge related to laser operations and materials
Willingness and ability to learn CAD and PEP software for programming tasks
Mechanical aptitude and safe handling capability for large or heavy materials
Ability to work independently throughout the shift
Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift and crane certifications from Clow Stamping Company
6–12 months of relevant experience required
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift and handle materials up to 100 lbs
Frequent bending, reaching, material handling, and part movement
Required PPE: eye protection, hearing protection, MET guard safety shoes
