Laser Apprentice - Weekend shift

Starting Pay: $18.50–$24.50 per hour

Hours: Friday - Sunday, 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Must be available to train on day shift for 1-3 months.

The Laser Operator Apprentice position focuses on developing the skills needed to operate laser cutting equipment and produce precision metal components. Working alongside experienced operators, the apprentice learns how to set up jobs according to specifications, including verifying materials and selecting the appropriate machine settings. Responsibilities include moving materials with a forklift or overhead crane, uploading programs to the laser control system, and making adjustments during production as needed.

During operation, the apprentice observes the cutting process to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy. The role also involves inspecting completed parts, removing them from the machine, detabbing when required, and organizing or stacking finished parts according to job instructions.

Key Responsibilities

• Learn to retrieve raw materials from inventory using forklifts or cranes to support job orders
• Learn to stack and file laser‑cut parts to maintain organization and support workflow
• Load programs onto laser cutting machinery and assist with troubleshooting cutting issues
• Monitor the laser cutting process to ensure accuracy and part quality
• Detab laser‑cut parts and prepare them for downstream processing
• Inspect completed parts for defects and verify conformance to specifications
• Follow laser department procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements
• Assist with basic adjustments to laser settings under supervision
  

• Proficient math skills for interpreting dimensions and measurements
• Ability to multitask and manage several responsibilities at a time
• Ability to retain and apply technical knowledge related to laser operations and materials
• Willingness and ability to learn CAD and PEP software for programming tasks
• Mechanical aptitude and safe handling capability for large or heavy materials
• Ability to work independently throughout the shift
• Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift and crane certifications from Clow Stamping Company
• 6–12 months of relevant experience required

• Required PPE: eye protection, hearing protection, MET guard safety shoes
