What You’ll Do



  • Optimize performance of GLE’s pulsed CO₂ laser systems and associated subsystems.

  • Design and implement enhancements to improve laser system efficiency.

  • Characterize optical performance and apply analytical models to guide improvements.

  • Lead projects to integrate novel optical technologies into GLE's systems.

  • Collaborate with Process Physics, Operations, and Mechanical Engineering to align with broader program goals.

  • Support laser operations and develop creative manufacturing approaches.


What You’ll Bring



  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in a scientific or engineering role.

  • 1+ year of hands-on experience with plasma physics and pulsed CO₂ lasers.

  • Proven experience in design and hands-on implementation of laser/optical systems.

  • Experience with data processing and reporting using MATLAB, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar tools.

  • Must be 18 or older.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active NRC Q-Clearance and nuclear site access.


Desired



  • M.S. or PhD in Physics or Engineering

  • Experience in modelling and simulation of gas laser kinetics

  • Working knowledge of high energy solid state lasers and nonlinear processes.

  • Experience or familiarity with Zemax or related optical modeling software.


Important Note


This position is subject to the successful candidate’s ability to obtain and maintain a DOE/NRC Q-clearance. Continued employment is contingent on eligibility for nuclear site access.
