This role will manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers, ensuring that project goals align with business and technical roadmaps. The manager will provide strategic direction for laser system maturation, coordinate cross-functional initiatives, and oversee resource allocation to support commercialization of GLE’s laser-based isotope separation technology.

NOTE: This role is subject to the incumbent’s ability to hold and maintain an NRC Q-clearance, as well as their ongoing ability to maintain nuclear site access.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:

  • Provide technical and strategic leadership to the Laser Engineering team, overseeing the development, integration, and validation of laser and optical systems.

  • Manage, mentor, and develop engineering staff to ensure a high-performing and collaborative team.

  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in laser engineering processes and technology development.

  • Develop and execute project plans, including scope, budgets, schedules, and key deliverables.

  • Act as the primary liaison between laser engineering and other functional teams such as Operations, Process Physics, and Mechanical Engineering.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, licensing, and site safety standards, maintaining a strong nuclear safety culture.

Technical Oversight:

  • Direct the design and optimization of laser components, subsystems, and full-scale laser systems.

  • Oversee the integration of novel laser-based technologies into commercial-scale uranium enrichment applications.

  • Lead technology maturation initiatives, ensuring systems are scalable, cost-effective, and optimized for commercial deployment.

  • Identify technical risks and define mitigation strategies to ensure project success.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in laser physics, optical design, and opto-mechanical system engineering.

  • Facilitate the transition of laser technology from research and development into full-scale production.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laser safety requirements and oversee the company’s Laser Safety Program.

  • Ensure proper documentation of laser system designs, specifications, and operational procedures to support licensing, procurement, and commissioning.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS):

·        Adhere to the Company’s EHS policies, procedures and regulatory requirements relating to the work being undertaken to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.

·        Contribute to the GLE safety culture by proactively applying EHS principles and best practices to the planning, execution, and conclusion of all activities.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

·        U.S. Citizen with an active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or the ability to obtain one.

·        Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

·        Minimum of 10 years of experience in laser and optical system engineering.

·        Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and large-scale projects.

·        Expertise in pulsed CO2 lasers, nonlinear optics, beam management, and opto-mechanical
         design.

·        Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple initiatives and meet
         deadlines.

·        Experience working in classified or highly regulated environments.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and engineering software tools.

Desired Qualifications:
·        Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
·        15+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience.
·        Experience with CAD, FEA, or Multiphysics software (e.g., COMSOL).
·        Familiarity with optical coatings, RF circuitry, and laser frequency control systems.
·        Documented success in new product/technology development and commercialization.

·        Successful execution of laser technology projects within scope, budget, and schedule.

·        Effective leadership and development of the Laser Engineering team.

·        Implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance and cost-
         effectiveness of laser systems.

·        Compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.

·        Effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to advance commercialization
         efforts.
