Laser Operator

Job Summary

The Laser Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the laser cutter to ensure the production of high-quality parts in alignment with customer specifications and company standards. This role requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and strong problem-solving skills to maintain equipment performance, ensure data accuracy, and uphold a clean and organized workspace.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Machine Operation & Production

• Set up and operate the laser cutter according to job specifications.
• Monitor machine performance, make necessary adjustments, and ensure production meets quality standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and ensure all maintenance records are up to date.

Quality Control & Documentation

• Inspect cut materials to ensure accuracy and conformance to blueprints and customer requirements.
• Identify and communicate quality concerns or machine issues to the Team Leader.
• Maintain daily logs for operating hours and production data.
• Complete and submit daily data collection logs to track machine efficiency and job progress.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Work with production teams to schedule work efficiently and meet customer demands.
• Take ownership of process issues and collaborate with the team to develop solutions.
• Assist with various tasks to optimize overall operational performance.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities but is expected to adhere to company policies, safety regulations, and quality standards while demonstrating leadership in production accuracy and efficiency.

Technical & Professional Skills

• Ability to interpret dimensional blueprints and specifications.
• Experience using calipers and other measuring tools for precise quality checks.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and machine operation.
• Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting.
• Good hand-eye coordination to ensure precision cutting.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and multi-task effectively.
• Printing, pre-press, or die-cutting experience is preferred.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One to three months of related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on training.
• Experience in a manufacturing or printing environment is a plus.
• Must have a strong sense of quality control with good judgment of color, design, and print quality.

Language Skills

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, job orders, and technical specifications.

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to execute detailed written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues involving production equipment and materials.

• Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to operate machinery.

• Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
