The Role: Lateral Associate - Business Restructuring & Reorganization | New York, NY
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Lateral Associate to join a top-tier Business Restructuring & Reorganization team in New York, NY. This position offers the chance to engage in high-profile restructuring cases and distressed acquisition work, collaborating with industry-leading professionals on impactful legal matters.
Practice Expertise and Focus
This position is part of a globally recognized Business Restructuring & Reorganization team that handles:
Creditor Representation: Advising hedge funds, CLOs, private equity funds, and other financial institutions in Chapter 11 cases and out-of-court restructurings.
Debtor Representation: Managing high-profile Chapter 11 cases, including cross-border restructurings and out-of-court negotiations.
Distressed Acquisitions: Structuring and executing strategic acquisitions in distressed scenarios.
Complex Financial Transactions: Navigating the intricacies of corporate finance and capital structure solutions.
In this position, you will:
Represent creditors and debtors in high-stakes Chapter 11 proceedings and restructuring negotiations.
Draft and negotiate complex agreements, including debtor-in-possession financing and reorganization plans.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative solutions for distressed clients.
Support clients in cross-border insolvencies and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Handle distressed acquisitions, crafting creative and practical legal strategies to achieve client goals.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are seeking candidates who bring the following qualifications and attributes:
Experience and Expertise
Experience: 3-7 years of experience (law school class years 2016-2020) in business restructuring, reorganization, and distressed acquisitions.
Practice Areas: Strong experience with creditor and debtor representations in Chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, and distressed transactions.
Educational Credentials
Juris Doctor (JD): Degree from a top-tier, accredited law school with strong academic credentials.
Core Competencies
Legal Acumen: Strong skills in legal research, drafting, negotiation, and analytical reasoning.
Strategic Thinking: Ability to craft innovative legal solutions for complex restructuring challenges.
Collaboration and Leadership: Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Additional Attributes
Bar Admission: Admission to the New York Bar is required.
Cross-Border Expertise: Experience in cross-border insolvency and restructuring matters is highly valued.
Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
