Job Description - Lathe Lead

Carolina Precision Technologies (CPT) is a premier, full-service precision manufacturer for the medical and aerospace industries. We are a market-leading manufacturer of implants, specialty surgical instruments, cutting tools, and delivery systems for the orthopedic, sports medicine, trauma, extremities and other MedSurg applications. We are currently seeking Machinists at our facility in Putnam, CT. The ideal candidates will have experience in a production environment with good communication and an ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with managing all employees in their department. Help to maintain and improve the department’s budget and output targets to meet or exceed customer requirements and company goals.
  • Responsible for coordinating all department needs with management. 
  • Work directly with employees in the department to coordinate work. 
  • Assist in scheduling of machines and programming needs. 
  • Fully responsible for monitoring employee performance. 
  • Responsible for monitoring and correcting job tracking in E2. 
  • Delegate jobs and balance employee workload. 
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice manufacturing strategies. 
  • Manage machine performances and metrics. 
  • Help to maintain a team environment. 
  • Maintain continuous 5S standards and train where needed. 
  • Familiar with precision measuring equipment, i.e., Micrometers, Calipers, Bore Gages, Optical Comparator, Micro Height, V.M.M. etc. 
  • Work independently with minimum supervision. 
  • Experience with manual lathes and millers. 
  • Knowledge of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. 
  • Make tool lists. 
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions. 
  • Able to read blueprints/sketches. 

Experience and Skills

  • 1 to 5 years in machine shop environment
  • Proficient use of micrometers, gauging, and comparator
  • Familiarity with Eurotech, Citizen, Turn/Mill machines and live tooling a plus
  • Skilled blueprint reading
  • Programming experience a plus

Other Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Proficiency in general math
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours and lift up to 50 lbs
