 Looking for a job with great Benefits and Culture? Join us at Hollenbeck Palms! We are seeking a full-time Laundry Staff to join our team in our Assisted Residential Living facility! Our community has been around for over 130 years proving quality care to the seniors we serve and we are the 1st licensed retirement home in the State of California.

Schedule / Shifts:

  • Scheduled days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Shift: 4AM-12PM

Position Purpose:  The purpose of position is to carry out duties for the washing, drying, folding, and mending of clothes and linen. Assisting with operating related equipment in the facility laundry, includes picking up soiled clothing and linen, returning cleaned items to department and sorting and distributing clothes and personal linen items to residents in Health Center. 

Essential Duties:

  • Receives assignments under supervision and prioritizes work on a daily basis. 
  • Picks up soiled laundry from Health Center; picks up soiled linen from Dining Room and Activity Directors. 
  • Sorts and weighs soiled laundry and prepares for washing; loads and unloads machines. 
  • Shakes, irons, folds, sorts, and counts clean laundry for distribution. 
  • Disposes of unusable items per facility standards and arranges for replacement. 
  • Stores and secures supplies and equipment. 
  • Keeps all laundry washing, drying, ironing, and sorting areas clean and organized. 
  • Operates washing machines, dryers, extractors, ironers, steam cabinets, folders, and sewing machines. 
  • Helps selects correct cycles, formulas, temperatures, and drying times. 
  • Prepares and loads chemicals, being able being careful to measure accurate amounts. 
  • Monitors machines for problems and refers to Supervisor; assists changing filters and cleaning debris from dryer screens. 
  • Inspects, mends, and marks laundry for sewing repairs; may perform simple alterations if time permits. 
  • Works effectively and sustainably, uses products economically, securing and storing safely.
  • Attends required in-service, checks assigned work schedule, and reads posted memos.
  • Works cooperatively with Supervisors, Department Managers, Co-workers and facility employees.
  • Works with employees in Health Care Center and dining room t o coordinate pick-up and delivery o f resident clothing and items for special events. 
  • Responds to emergency requests, search for lost items, extra replacement clothing for residents as required; assist in disasters.

Requirements

  1. Clear criminal background with DOJ and FBI 
  2. Good knowledge of general office procedures with demonstrated administrative and secretarial skills 
  3. Advanced personal computer skills necessary to format reports, presentations, spreadsheets, graphics, etc
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently and plan and manage short-term, routine projects 

Physical Requirements of Position:

Subject to any necessary and available reasonable accommodations, employee 

  • Ability to lift, carry, raise and lower heavy laundry, weighing up to 60 pounds, on a daily basis. 
  • Must be able to move loads weighing up to 100 pounds in carts or slings. 
  • Must be able to stand and walk, up to 8 hours per day, up to 3 hours at a time, for a full time position. 
  • Must be able to stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, push, and pull related to laundry duties, and under machinery when assisting with maintenance. 
  • Position requires exposure to heat, humidity, and noise, exposure to heavily soiled or contaminated laundry, and handling of caustic and acidic products. 
  • Work require orientation to MSDS book, hand smell contact when using product chemicals; and awareness of antidotes for exposure spills.
  • May experience exposure to wet floors; airborne particles or fibers, and vibration.
