The Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse (CADA) is hiring a Lead Adult Residential Treatment Counselor to work in our Adult Residential Treatment Services in Santa Barbara.
The Lead Adult Residential Treatment Counselor plays a vital role in supporting adults in their recovery from substance use by providing structure, guidance, and clinical support within a residential treatment setting. In this position, you’ll coordinate and conduct client intakes, maintain referral and call lists, facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, and assist in treatment planning and assessment. You will ensure accurate and timely documentation, while also supporting medication access procedures and basic facility upkeep. Working closely with both clients and a multidisciplinary team, you will help foster a safe, supportive environment that promotes lasting recovery and personal growth.
Qualifications:
- College degree in helping profession (Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, etc.) and MFT or CAC preferred.
- AOD Certification required.
- Minimum one year experience in the field of alcohol/drug counseling required.
- Knowledge of DMC-ODS procedure codes, documentation standards, and service guidelines
- Familiarity with TCM/ICC care coordination, group/individual counseling techniques, and substance abuse assessment and case planning
- Strong team-building skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals
- Understanding of local resources for treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation, as well as detoxification and early recovery challenges
- Excellent verbal communication skills with diverse clients and professionals, and awareness of professional boundaries and referral needs
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and manage the residential referral waitlist, including adding, removing, and updating client status as needed
- Schedule and conduct client intakes, including initial assessments and placement coordination
- Maintain and oversee a call list for counselors to ensure timely check-in calls and intake coordination for referred clients
- Assist clients with treatment planning and complete comprehensive substance abuse assessments
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions, including education and relapse prevention in alignment with program goals
- Ensure timely, accurate documentation of client files, case notes, and required records in compliance with DMC-ODS and Title 9 regulations
- Oversee administrative tasks such as medication access logs, clinic record maintenance, and basic facility upkeep between professional cleanings
- Represent the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse professionally and perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director
This position is Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, for a total of 40 hours per week. Compensation is dependent of the level of prior experience and qualifications, with a salary range of $26-$28, and a rate increase potential for bilingual (Spanish/English).
