Job Description - Lead Architectural Engineer

USAM DC is seeking a Lead Millwork Engineer. The Lead Millwork Engineer works closely with the Engineering Manager, other Engineers, Project Managers, and Production while managing these tasks: reviews drawing, creating submittal documents and requests when needed, incorporates redlines and field dimensions, and follows up with other Engineers on scheduled events and questions. The Lead Engineer will work closely with the Project Manager through the entire life cycle of multiple projects ensuring all information is coordinated and updated to ensure project success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Carries out duties assigned by the Engineering Manager.
  • Record and track the status and completion of tasks provided by the Engineering Manager.
  • Communicate and collaborate with engineering and production team members to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Follows up with other team members on meeting deadlines and upcoming projects to work on.
  • Works closely with the Operations and Engineering teams on conflict resolution to ensure deadlines are hit in a timely manner.
  • Proactively communicates potential issues and challenges with the Engineering team.
  • Stays up to date with field conditions and updates drawings for fabrication accordingly.
  • Maintains an understanding of all the materials and hardware used to manufacture the approved scope of work.
  • Utilizes AutoCAD and Microvellum to prepare drawings for production release and release to subcontractors.
  • Reviews sub-contractor drawings for submittals.
  • Helps team members with questions and issues.
  • Attend weekly meetings with Engineering team to receive and discuss weekly assignments.
  • Process releases through Microvellum, saw optimization and CAM software; annotate as built drawings, and print & release reports and drawings for production.
  • Effectively manages time and prioritizes assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with production & project management to effectively develop production drawings.
  • Ability to correctly perform material take-offs for ordering/pulling inventory.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have any direct supervisor responsibilities.  However, the position assists and guides other team members with questions and concerns. The position also follows and instructs other team members on the schedule when the Engineering Manager is not available.


Physical Demands:
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. 

Preferred Education and Skills (in addition to the required):
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Wood Technology, or related field highly preferred
  • 5 – 10 years’ experience drafting/drawing with AutoCAD and/or Microvellum
  • 5 – 10 years’ experience working in the architectural millwork industry
  • Knowledge of Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) Standards
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing

Required Education and Skills:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Min 5 years' experience architectural drafting/engineering
  • Ability to read and understand architectural drawings
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including intermediate Excel skills
  • Experience with millwork production methods and fabrication techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to read and interpret architectural drawings/blueprints
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
