Under the supervision of the Creative Manager, the Lead Artist Craftsman oversees the Elements production process—from estimating labor and materials to planning, fabrication, and shipping. This role both directs and contributes to the creation of Elements projects, including replica trees, preserved moss, and Museum Series installations. The Lead Artist Craftsman adapts to evolving business needs, supporting team members across the department with diverse tasks They bring intermediate carpentry and artistic skills, along with a strong desire to learn and master the processes required to create Elements products to client specifications.

Lead Artist Craftsman Responsibilities   

• Maintains safe and healthy work environment by complying with company and industry safety standards. 
• Leads the production and fabrication of artificial plants and trees from raw materials. Adheres to safety standards, production process, production standards, and production schedule. 
• Oversees the work of production team to ensure that product meets standards of quality, time, and cost. Guides team on safe practices, building methods, and design standards. 
• Creates estimates for sales under the supervision of the Creative Department Manager, including labor and material costs. Reviews actual cost spent compared to estimate. Identifies areas of improvement to ensure profitability.
• Tracks material usage, updates inventory records, and ensures accurate completion of monthly inventory.
• Prepares products for shipment; builds custom crates and other packages. Loads and unloads products with the assistance of other Creative Department team members. Books freight.
• Schedules for delivery and installation of sold projects in coordination with sales department. 
• Photographs and documents production techniques for reference and training.
• Maintains equipment. Operate equipment such as forklifts and lifts to move and create product. 
• Cleans and organizes warehouse daily.
• Assists Creative Department team members with creation of holiday structures and decoration of large holiday jobs, including frequent participation in holiday production as needed. 
• Travels to client sites for installation or maintenance of products. 

Lead Artist Craftsman Requirements    

• High School Diploma or GED; 2 years related experience or training in a related field and a portfolio displaying previous applicable projects and work history.
• Intermediate carpentry and artistic skills; ability to proficiently operate a variety of hand tools, air tools, and saws
• Design eye; knowledge of products, product placement, product handling, and design
• Critical thinking and basic mathematical skill; able to use basic principles of geometry, algebra, and engineering to plan, estimate, and create accurate work
• Ability to take charge and make the best decision based on the needs of the client 
• Detail oriented; able to replicate existing designs and create new designs with precision
• Collaborative, team-focused work ethic; strong verbal communication skills
• Ability to lead and coach a team to successfully accomplish production jobs
• Self-motivated and reliable; ability to work independently and solve problems
• Flexibility and adaptability to adjust to changing demands
• Detail oriented; able to replicate existing designs
• Ability to multi-task and stay organized to meet deadlines
• Ability to remain calm under pressure, in a fast-paced work environment 
• Basic computer skills in Microsoft office suite and ability to learn additional computer programs
• Driver’s License and clean driving record 
• Boom and scissor lift certification, or ability to obtain lift certifications
• Forklift certification or ability to obtain lift certification

Physical Requirements

Sufficient manual dexterity to perform job functions using hand and power tools. This position requires almost constant standing. This position frequently moves about the warehouse and regularly moves through tight spaces. This position regularly ascends and descends ladders and occasionally operates a forklift. This position frequently lifts and moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and moves weight up to 100 pounds. This position requires color vision and the ability to adjust focus. This position occasionally uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and scanners.

Work Environment

This job requires employee to work regularly in varying workshop conditions. This position is constantly exposed to common allergens such as dust. This position will be exposed to extreme cold or extreme heat. The work environment may include occasional loud noise.
