Job Description - Lead Buyer

POSITION TITLE: Lead Buyer

Department: Materials Management

Reports to: Materials Manager; CFO

Date: 02/03/2025

Mission of Department : Provide excellent customer service to all, and constantly strive to improve product value and quality while maintaining cost effectiveness, allowing the hospital to best serve our patients.

Purpose of Position: Provide services to obtain non-pharmaceutical supplies for the facility including but not limited to the following:

Essential Functions:

  1.  To assist the Director in the management of supplies in all phases, in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • a) Accepts requests/requisitions for supplies from all departments. 
  • b) Review the inventory management system and/or GPO contracts to identify supplies.
  • c) If no match is found then item will be researched and ordering information added.
  • d) Supplies will then be either fulfilled from onsite inventory or added to a purchase order.
  • e) Purchase Orders will be used to place orders with necessary vendors.
  • f) Charges will be assigned to proper departments and patient accounts.
  • g) Vendors will be contacted as needed to discuss pricing, availability, and other issues. 
  • h) Maintain automated supply distribution systems.
  1.  Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment. 
  • a) Maintains free and hazard free traffic area, and unblocked exits.
  • b) Cleans and straightens shelves before storage of supplies. 
  • c) Informs other departments of received goods and need for removal from central supply.
  •  
  1.  Assists in orientation, training, and increase standard of performance. 
  • a) Aids in procedural revision.
  • b) Attends departmental meetings, in-service training, and designated hospital meetings.
  • c) Assists other departments with all non-pharmaceutical supply needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

Other stocking and handling of supplies as assigned by Supervisor.

Education, Qualifications, Experience:

Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must be able to use cognitive and deductive thinking skills.

Personal Characteristics:

Must have adequate physical and mental abilities, good physical health, good telephone skills and manners, be neat and clean in appearance, emotionally stable, have a good memory, exercise patience and tact when dealing with others. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must have the capability to approve and verify orders for accuracy. 

Must be able to provide on the job technical instruction as required.

Must comply with safety policies and procedures. 

Equipment: 

Computer skills required. 

Expectation of Service: This is a non-exempt 40 hour per week position. Regular and punctual attendance is required.  

Physical Requirements: Frequent computer work, occasional standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting/carrying 10-40 pounds with occasional lifting/carrying 41-75 pounds.
