Job Description - Lead Carpenter

Are you the right person for our team, and are we the right team for you?

Do you enjoy leading people as much as building exceptional projects? Are you someone who naturally stays organized, solves problems before they become issues, and takes pride in delivering an outstanding client experience? Do you thrive in an environment where craftsmanship, leadership, accountability, and teamwork are equally important?

MAK Design + Build is an award-winning residential design + build remodeling company based in Davis, California. We are looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter to join a collaborative, accountable, and solution-focused team. We value craftsmanship, direct communication, continuous improvement, and creating remarkable remodeling experiences for our clients.

Our projects include kitchens, bathrooms, additions, whole-home remodels, and occasional new construction. The Lead Carpenter is the accountable field leader for residential remodeling projects. This role leads daily jobsite operations, manages quality and production, coordinates schedules with the Project Manager and Director of Build, supervises carpenters and apprentices, and helps coordinate trade partners to keep projects moving efficiently. • Mentor and train Apprentice Carpenters and Carpenters while promoting company standards and craftsmanship.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project details while ensuring work is completed accurately.
  • Identify field challenges early and collaborate with the Project Manager and Director of Build to develop practical solutions.
  • Maintain daily communication with homeowners, providing professionalism and confidence throughout construction.
  • Utilize JobTread and company systems to maintain daily logs, schedules, project documentation, RFIs, and field communication.
  • Maintain quality control throughout construction while proactively identifying items before they become punch list issues.
  • Assist with project closeout, homeowner orientation, warranty items, and final quality inspections.
  • Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve field operations, efficiency, and craftsmanship.

Desired Traits + Skills

  • Natural leader who enjoys mentoring and developing others.
  • Exceptional organizational and scheduling abilities.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and production planning.
  • Excellent communication with homeowners, trade partners, and teammates.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and resolve them before they impact the schedule.
  • High standards for craftsmanship, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Calm under pressure with strong decision-making abilities.
  • Positive attitude and solutions-first mindset.
  • Comfortable using technology including JobTread, scheduling software, email, and mobile applications.
  • Passion for continuous improvement and building a strong team culture.

Qualifications
