Job Description - Lead Carpenter / Working Project Lead

Lead Carpenter / Working Project Lead

Interior Remodeling • Year-Round Work

Are you a top-tier carpenter who knows how to run a job—but is tired of running a business?

If you’ve owned your own company or worked as a lead handyman or remodeler, you already know the grind: bidding jobs at night, chasing materials, dealing with accounting, marketing, sales calls, and never really being “off the clock.”

This role is different.
We handle the business. You build.

About the Role

This is a working Lead Carpenter position—you’ll be on the tools most of the day while leading a small crew (typically a 2-person team). You’re responsible for executing the plan, directing your helper, and communicating progress. The schedule, materials, customers, billing, and back-office work are handled by our company.

Most projects are interior remodels, primarily bathroom renovations focused on safety, accessibility, and aging in place—steady, meaningful work that stays busy year-round.

Compensation

  • $20/hour base pay

  • Performance bonuses based on efficiency

  • Qualified leads earn $75,000–$100,000 per year

  • Overtime paid at 1.5× hourly rate

  • Bonuses paid every pay period (bi-weekly)

  • Additional daily on-schedule bonuses (typically ~$25/day)

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive weekly pay with bonus potential

  • W2 position not 1099

  • 401(k) with 3.5% company match

  • Health Insurance

  • Dental & Vision Benefits

  • Paid Time Off

  • Long-Term Disability Insurance

  • Medical Gap Coverage

  • Supportive team culture and ongoing training

Work–Life Balance That Actually Works

You still run your job like a professional—but you’re not chained to it.

We understand real life happens. If you have a doctor’s appointment, a kid’s ball game, or a family commitment, you have the flexibility to manage your schedule within reason while still keeping projects on track and maximizing your earning potential.

This role is designed for someone who wants to work like a business owner on the jobsite, while still being a present husband, father, or family man when the workday is done.

What We Provide

  • Company van with take-home privileges

  • Fuel card

  • Dedicated helper (paid similarly—so they’re motivated too)

  • All jobs scheduled for you

  • Materials ordered and staged at our warehouse

  • PM and sales support for change orders

  • Vehicle maintenance, repairs, and replacement handled by the company

  • Tool purchase program (0% interest payroll deduction)

  • Tool replacement for normal wear and tear

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and execute interior remodeling projects from start to finish

  • Perform hands-on carpentry daily (framing, drywall, flooring, trim, showers, vanities, paint, etc.)

  • Direct and mentor your helper on job tasks

  • Communicate job progress (on schedule / ahead / behind)

  • Identify unforeseen conditions and coordinate change orders when needed

  • Maintain high standards for quality, cleanliness, and professionalism

  • Occasionally meet inspectors when permits are required (with PM support)

How the Bonus Works (Simple & Transparent)

Each project includes a labor budget. That labor is split between the lead and helper (typically 60/40).

If the job is completed efficiently and done right, the remaining labor becomes your bonus.
Punch lists, callbacks, or rework reduce the bonus—quality matters.

Schedule & Travel

  • Typical hours: Monday–Friday, 7am–5pm

  • Some flexibility for family schedules

  • Service area includes Crossville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, and surrounding areas

  • Most projects are 5 days or less

  • Interior work = steady, year-round employment

  • Home every night!

Who This Role Is Perfect For

  • Former business owners who love the work—but hate running the business

  • Lead carpenters or handymen ready to focus on building instead of bidding

  • Craftsmen who value efficiency, honesty, and pride in workmanship

  • Leaders who want stability, strong income, and control over their time

What We Expect

  • Strong residential construction experience

  • Working knowledge of plumbing, framing, finishes, and general remodeling

  • Ability to lead a crew and make sound on-site decisions

  • Clear communication and accountability

  • Honesty is non-negotiable

Tools: You must have your own core tools. Specialty tools and vehicle are provided.

Growth Opportunities

This role can lead to:

  • Senior Lead Carpenter

  • Project Management

  • Sales (if desired)

We’ve promoted from this position before.
