POSITION TITLE: Lead CNA

REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing

DEPARTMENT: Nursing

The primary purpose of your job description is to manage and support all certified nursing assistants within the facility. Participate in the interviewing, orientation, and onboarding processes for all CNAs. Ensure appropriate staffing of CNAs with daily and monthly schedules directed by the DON and PPD/current needs. Ensure appropriate training and services are completed and documented appropriately per state regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director of Nursing as necessary/, concerning the operation of the CNAs.


• Assist in developing methods for coordinating CNA services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents' total regimen of care.


• Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.


• Audit CNA documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.


• Participate in the Performance Improvement Committee program in cooperation with the Administrator and Interdisciplinary Team members (IDT) as assigned.


• Serve on, participate in, and attend various other committees of the facility (i.e., psychotropic drug committee, restraint management committee, safety committee, etc. as , and as appointed by the Director of Nursing.


• Ensure that all mandatory CNA education is completed timely and documented appropriately per state regulations.


• Provide inservices as directed by DON/ADON.


• Provide direct nursing care as needed.


• Provide all quarterly inservices for Hoyer/Sit to stand lifts; keeping appropriate records of mandatory training in conjunction with SDC/ADON.


• Participate in the orientation process as needed.


• Be back up staffing Coordinator as Needed which ensures, accurate daily PPD's handling Call offs and other duties in a timely manner.


• Perform all other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of computer systems including Point of Care


• Working knowledge of long-term care and skilled nursing state and federal regulations (preferred)


• Knowledge of nursing procedures and standards of care relating to CNA


• Leadership and supervisory skills-willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel


• Patience, tact and a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm as well as willingness to handle difficult people


• Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Experience: One-year experience in a long-term care environment (preferred)


• License: Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an CNA in Colorado

JOB TRAINING:

• How long it usually takes to completely perform this job when the incumbent has the minimum knowledge, skills, abilities, work experience and/or education: up to 3 months

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Moves intermittently during working hours


• Is subject to frequent interruptions


• Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances


• Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc


• Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary


• Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)


• Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants


• Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses


• May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility


• Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which includes a mental and physical examination


• Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met


• Must be able to push, pull, move, and /or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet


• May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
