Job Description - Lead Design Engineer - New Product Introduction

Eaton\u2019s ES AMER ARS division is currently seeking a Lead Design Engineer - New Product Introduction. This position will be based at our facility in Sumter, SC. We are offering relocation assistance for candidates who reside within the U.S. \n\nThe expected annual salary range for this role is $97000 - $143000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.\n\nPlease note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. \n\n## What you\u2019ll do:\n\nThe Lead Design Engineer is responsible for the achievement of standardization of engineering systems across the Eaton Panelboard and Switchboard product line operations. They will develop best-in-class products through state-of-the-art control wiring CAD systems. This role is also responsible for providing technical expertise on power distribution control circuits. The Lead Design Engineer is also responsible for supporting each of the nineteen Panelboard and Switchboard operational sites (Sumter, Juarez, El Paso, and 16 Satellites) with regard to the design accuracy of new product that they launch. \n\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: \n\n\u2022 Be the subject matter expert for control wiring and harness development \n\u2022 Work with other divisions to develop automation around EPLAN schematics and wiring diagrams from Eaton\u2019s Design Automation tool \n\u2022 Develop, design, validate, and manage the implementation of best-in-class power control circuit designs. \n\u2022 Ability to translate internal and external customer requirements into measurable performance criteria. \n\u2022 Assist in the development of the schedule and budget for new product development projects. \n\u2022 Develop technical communications: datasheets, interface control documents, test plans, etc. \n\u2022 Design, model, and test product prototypes. \n\u2022 Maintain and improve existing products through design and competitive analysis. \n\u2022 Work with other Eaton Electrical businesses as well as outside suppliers to develop new features and design opportunities for products within the product line scope and charter. \n\u2022 Integrate best practices from each functional team to deliver a high quality, best-in-class design. \n\u2022 Ensure compliance to all applicable national and local electrical codes and standards as they relate to the products we produce (UL, NEC, NEMA, OSPHD). \n\u2022 Represent the product line as a lead technical consultant with respect to control wiring. \n\u2022 You will be a commercial \u0026 technical resource for the product line, including answering complex customer or field sales questions. \n\n## Qualifications:\n\nBASIC QUALIFICATIONS: \n\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree in engineering from an accredited institution \n\u2022 Minimum 2 years of design experience with electrical distribution equipment \n\u2022 Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. This means that Eaton will not support any CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT plans, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc. \n \n \nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: \n\u2022 Two (2) years of experience designing products under UL 50, UL67, and UL 891 standards \n\u2022 Two (2) years of experience with EPLAN software package \n\u2022 Two (2) years of experience with Autodesk Inventor \n\u2022 Certification for Design for Six Sigma\n\n## Skills:\n\nPOSITION CRITERIA:\n\n\u2022 Good verbal and written communication skills, persuasive skills, and analytical problem-solving skills. Work with individuals and groups to effectively participate within team environment. \n\u2022 Proficiency in Engineering software/tools (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor \u0026 Enovia) \n\u2022 Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) \n\u2022 Experience with Autodesk Inventor \n\u2022 Knowledge of Product Life-cycle management systems and their structure \n\u2022 Fabrication methods for sheet metal, plastic, copper, and aluminum \n\u2022 Proper bus joint design \n\u2022 Up to 10% of your time traveling\n\n## Additional Information: \n\nADDITIONAL INFORMATION:\n\nExpected to work with some degree of independence and make decisions that affect the workgroup. Focus efforts on attaining assigned goals and objectives, which include meeting needs and expectations of internal and external customers. Must be able to successfully manage multiple priorities, analyze complex problems and implement solutions. \nMust be able to communicate effectively with customers and company personnel at all management, professional, and technical levels. This position requires a high level of responsiveness and proactive problem solving to reinforce enterprise wide goal of providing world class customer satisfaction.
