Leads staff in performing a full range of ECHO procedures to provide optimum information for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School graduate or equivalent.
2. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
EXPERIENCE:
1. Three (3) years of cardiac sonography experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Explains procedures at a level the patient will understand and answers patient questions about procedure with clarity.
2. Accesses the computer system to retrieve and reproduce completed Echo exams.
3. Exercises through knowledge base inclusive of cardiothoracic anatomy and proper lead placement 100% of the time.
4. Coordinates outpatient testing with inpatient demands prioritizing emergency and “stat” calls in the patient care areas without direct supervision.
5. Maintains adequate and appropriate records as directed.  Responsible for documentation of clinical and technical history on patient.  Responsible for accurate utilization of the computer to document patient and exam information and charging functions.
6. Assures that all required consent, history and screening forms are completed and verified by signature of customer and/or legal guardian and/or physician, and/or technologist prior to performing procedure.
7. Communicates with other health care professionals, including patient referral sources, verbally and in writing.
8. Maintains level of supplies/materials, assist with care maintenance of department equipment, and reports malfunctions to supervisor.
9. Manage work schedule, call SCD, and day to day operations of the Echo Lab
10. Responsible for communicating any issues to manager and/or/ cardiology director.
11. Responsible for accreditation and quality performance improvement.
12. Responsible for completing yearly evaluations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Able to tolerate working with and around noxious odors. Able to ambulate, position, turn and pull up self-assisting adult patients. Possible exposure to:  electrical current, elevated noise level and sharps.
2. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8 hour shift. Able to lift 40 pounds from floor to waist.
3. Must meet Department of Labor’s MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly)

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Able to wear latex or vinyl gloves, with frequent changes and hand washing.
2. May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. May be exposed to traumatic situations including psychiatric crisis, physical injuries and death.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse. Answer telephones and transcribe messages.
2. Communicate verbally, written and electronically with healthcare personnel, families and patients.
