POSITION:

LEAD TEACHER - High School


EMPLOYER:

SUPERVISOR:  
Primary Supervisor- Principal (District Oversight- Administrator for Academic Services)


FLSA STATUS:

Exempt 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
 $57,783-$70,338 DOE annual salary, Full-time - Modified Year-Round Schedule


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 



  • Full-time employees receive benefits to include:

  • This is an on-site position with eligibility for temporary
    telework, subject to the criteria noted in the Employee Handbook and prior approval by the Supervisor.




  • For positions outside Maricopa County, travel and overnight stays may be required to participate in district-level, on-site professional development, training, and meetings at designated locations within the Greater Phoenix area. (Compensation will be provided for travel, food, and lodging).   


JOB SUMMARY:
 The role of the Lead Teacher at Student Choice High School serves alongside leadership and staff as a champion for students needing wrap-around services and an alternative pathway to their high school diploma.  This is a dynamic individual who understands alternative education and who strongly advocates for underprivileged and underserved youth and young adults. Utilizing the National Alternative Education Association’s Exemplary Practices as the standard for excellence, the Teacher promotes and enhances the overall mission, vision, and culture of the organization; engages in professional development and program evaluation with all stakeholders to foster continuous improvement; adheres to all policies and procedures benefiting the success of the organization and all stakeholders; performs tasks in the development and continuous implementation of a high school program, which promotes the educational well-being of each student in the school. Teachers will help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Serves as the Lead Teacher for the assigned Student Success Team.

  • Collaborates with the campus principal to support campus leadership, including communication and partnerships with all stakeholders.

  • Oversees the Team’s PLC to ensure student academic progress towards completion of high school. requirements for their diploma and students’ college/career pathway for post-secondary opportunities.

  • Serves as the Teacher of Record for assigned courses.

  • Monitors and ensures the efficacy of “Academic Assurances,” which define the district’s academic policies and procedures.

  • Instructs assigned classes in the location and at the time designated, to include tier 2 instruction and remediation.

  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

  • Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation at the request of the supervisor.

  • Guides the learning process through the use of established, clear objectives toward the achievement of district curriculum goals and state standards.

  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

  • Strives to implement, through instruction and example, the district’s philosophy of education.

  • Assesses student accomplishments on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.

  • Seeks the assistance of district specialists when learning disabilities are suspected.

  • Provides a daily review of the LMS Dashboard to monitor student course progress.

  • Conducts frequent Academic Outreach to ensure continuous course progress and academic achievement for students.

  • Serves as secondary support for Learning Coach.



  • Creates a positive and nurturing class environment that is developmentally appropriate and conducive to learning.

  • Sets and maintains standards of campus behavior and upholds district-wide discipline policies.



  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Maintains accurate and complete records required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation

  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

  • Makes provision to be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the regular instructional day when such encounters are required or requested under reasonable terms

  • Supports the philosophy, core values, mission, and vision of Student Choice.

  • Works as part of a collaborative District/Campus team and projects collegiality and the ability to inspire trust.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:




  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county, and city statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of applicable District and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of appropriate teaching strategies and methods.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with the school district.

  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Valid Arizona Teacher Certificate (Secondary-Grades 6-12 Certificate, STEM Certificate, Subject Matter Expert Certificate, CTE Certificate, or Alternative Teaching Certificate).

  • Passing score on approved Subject Knowledge Exam (Math or ELA or area approved by Administrator for Academic Programs.

  • Valid Az IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
