Job Description - Lead Electrical Engineer

Who we are:

EOI Space is developing and deploying a network of satellites in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) to provide ultra-high-resolution Earth imagery.  We aim to deliver timely and actionable data for commercial and defense applications.

We are on our way to achieving many industry firsts.  This demands an ambitious team that revels in leaning into challenges, getting hands on, and working together.  Does this sound like you?  EOI Space is looking for an Electrical Engineering Lead with a strong background in board design and avionics systems fundamentals, as well as previous experience on satellite flight programs, to lead the development of EOI’s in-house spacecraft subsystems and the associated electrical engineering functional team.

What you will do:

This role will play a key position in the development, test, and commissioning of EOIs satellites. You will be involved in the entire development lifecycle, from architectural development through design, analysis, and hands-on testing.  Your expertise will contribute to the success of our mission to deliver high-quality Earth imagery that benefits society.  Your role involves a combination of deep technical expertise, systems-level understanding and thinking, communication skills, and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the success of our space mission.  While you will manage a small team, the majority of your time will be spent actively contributing to technical design, development, and testing efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for spacecraft electrical systems, coordinating architecture and development across a small, high-performing team

  • Own the architecture, development roadmap, and system integration of all spacecraft electrical subsystems, with a particular focus on the portion of subsystems that are developed internally

  • Lead electrical trades, part selection, and compliance planning (radiation, thermal, derating, etc.)

  • Oversee and contribute to board-level designs incorporating FPGAs, microcontrollers, and mixed-signal circuits, proving guidance and ensuring best practices across the team

  • Collaborate across software, mechanical, systems, and RF teams to ensure electrical systems meet mission objectives

  • Direct and mentor a small team of electrical engineers and support staff

  • Support project-level planning, cost/schedule estimation, and vendor engagement for electrical work packages

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical system design for aerospace or high-reliability embedded systems; substantial and direct LEO satellite experience is preferred

  • Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional hardware teams, preferably in a startup or lean engineering environment

  • Deep understanding of power architectures, avionics interfaces, high-reliability digital/analog design, and harnessing

  • Proficiency with Altium

  • Strong experience with hardware bring-up, debugging, and hands-on lab testing

  • Familiarity with radiation effects (SEE, TID) and part selection strategies for LEO missions

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to translate complex technical detail into stakeholder-ready insights

  • Demonstrated ability to balance execution, mentorship, and strategic technical decision-making in a fast-paced environment

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $180,000-$230,000 per year, depending on previous experience.  Pay ranges are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data.  Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and internal equity.

Work Location:

This role can be in either Louisville, CO or in Seattle, WA, with some travel between the two locations. Satellite integration for the initial vehicles is happening in EOI’s Colorado facility with a planned transition to Seattle.
