Job Description - Lead Engineer

Eaton\u2019s IS VEH VGGP division is currently seeking a Lead Engineer. This position is a hybrid role that must be based within 50 miles of our Marshall, MI facility. \n\nThe Lead Engineer directs project activities through application of proficient technical knowledge and leadership competencies. The span of project responsibility includes initial gathering of the voice of the customer performance requirements, product definition, product design, product development. Also responsible for direct interface with customers, suppliers and Eaton facilities globally. \n\nThe expected annual salary range for this role is $97000 - $143000 a year. \nPlease note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. \n\nEaton announced, on January 26, 2026, the intent to separate its Mobility Group (including both the Vehicle and eMobility segments) into an independent, publicly traded company. We expect to complete the separation by the end of the first quarter of 2027. The compensation and benefits that will initially be offered for this position are based on Eaton\u0027s plans, programs and practices. If you are offered and accept this position and are actively employed by the Mobility Group when the spinoff closes, the new company will provide further details to employees concerning compensation and benefits at that time.\n\n## What you\u2019ll do:\n\n * Provides project leadership, mentoring, and training for new or junior-level employees on design and development processes, software, procedures, specifications, etc. Has significant group decision-making responsibility. Reviews and reports on engineering metrics and/or test results through engineering reports and written correspondence to ensure timely and effective communication with supervisors and peers. \n * Keeps informed of state-of-the-art technology, designs and develops new products and processes and improves existing products and processes. Supports the implementation of design changes to improve quality, performance, cost reduction, and standardization through analysis of designs and problem solving techniques. Directly interacts with the customer to communicate the project status and adjust based on customer feedback. \n * Understands design, development, and failure analysis through the use of DFMEA, customer returns, or specific development projects. Applies fundamental engineering practices and decision making for problem solving. Available to travel to the customer within-the-hour should the need arise whether related to an Moblity product or to aid in the troubleshooting process for the related system. Has practical experience with change management processes.\n * Provides guidance to engineering personnel throughout the division in a specific field of technology and makes presentations to internal and external customers on programs or products as required. Provides technical expertise that may include supporting field failure analysis, developing recommended corrective actions, and providing necessary reports as well as training in areas of expertise. Has experience with change management, Supply chain processes. \n * Actively pursues knowledge in the process for design changes to improve quality, performance, cost reduction, and standardization through analysis of designs and problem solving techniques. Suggests alternative methodologies or techniques to achieving desired results. \n * Understands the engineering methodologies within the division as well as other departments and their relationship to engineering. Participates in providing the creation, implementation and administration of departmental policies, procedures, and work instructions in order to build and promote a team environment for product introduction, development and support activities. \n * Conceives and writes patent disclosures to substantiate patent applications and accumulates the necessary documentation. Protects Eaton Intellectual Property (IP). \n * Complies with requirements of the Quality and Environmental Management Systems. \n * Product development of automotive driveline components. \n\n\n\n## Qualifications:\n\nRequired Basic Qualifications: \n\n * Minimum Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution \n * Minimum five (5) years work experience in automotive engineering \n * Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. Candidates must reside within a 50 mile radius of Marshall, MI to be considered. (Active Duty Military service members are exempt from this geographical limitation) \n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications: \n\n * Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Mechanical Engineering \n * Three (3) years automotive driveline components/systems engineering experience\n * Experience with large scale cross functional project team management experience \n * Expertise in use of gear design and simulation tools-Kissoft, Transmission 3D\n * DFSS, DFM/DFA, DFMEA\n * PLM system knowledge (ie: Enovia)\n\n\n\n## Skills:\n\n * Strong customer focus and interpersonal skills \n * Strong ethics, values and the ability to influence and impact others\u2019 decision making \n * Ability to deal with ambiguity and make decisions \n * Ability to manage multiple programs, set priorities and achieve results \n * Microsoft Office Suite 365\n\n\n\nAll positions may require participation in video and in-person interviews as part of the hiring process.
