Job Title: Lead Instructor – Afterschool Matters Performing Arts and Music Program


Location: KLEO Community Family Life Center 


Position Type: Part-Time 4:00-7:00 pm ( Tuesday - Thursday) 


Reports To: Director Of Programs / Youth Services Supervisor 



Job Overview:


The Lead Instructor for the Afterschool Matters Performing Arts and Music Program will be responsible for leading and facilitating engaging, dynamic, and educational programs for students in the performing arts and music space. This position requires strong leadership, creativity, and a passion for teaching students in an afterschool setting. The ideal candidate will have experience in performing arts or music education and possess the ability to inspire and guide students while fostering a safe and inclusive environment for learning and self-expression.


 


Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead Instruction: Design and implement lesson plans that provide hands-on experiences in performing arts (theater, dance, etc.) and music (instrumental, vocal, etc.), tailored to students' skill levels and interests.

  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the Program Director and other instructors to develop a creative and diverse curriculum that supports both the artistic growth of students and aligns with program goals.

  • Student Engagement: Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, creativity, and teamwork. Engage students of various skill levels in active learning, performance, and practice.

  • Assessment & Feedback: Regularly assess student progress and provide constructive feedback. Encourage students to set and achieve personal goals related to their performing arts and music skills.

  • Performance Preparation: Organize and lead student performances, recitals, or showcases that provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their skills and creativity in front of peers, families, and the community.

  • Behavior Management: Maintain a positive and respectful environment by utilizing effective classroom management strategies. Address behavior concerns in a proactive and supportive manner.

  • Communication: Maintain open communication with students, families, and program staff to ensure a positive and productive learning experience. Provide regular updates on student progress and program activities.

  • Collaborative Teamwork: Work alongside fellow instructors, teaching assistants, and program staff to ensure smooth operations and a well-coordinated program experience.

  • Professional Development: Stay current on trends and best practices in performing arts and music education. Participate in training and development opportunities as required.


Qualifications:



  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Music, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered. 

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in performing arts or music education, with at least 1 year of experience in a leadership or teaching capacity in an after school or youth-focused setting.

  • Skills:

    • Strong proficiency in at least one area of performing arts (e.g., theater, dance, music, etc.)

    • Ability to teach and inspire youth in an engaging and inclusive manner.

    • Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills.

    • Experience working with diverse youth populations.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.



  • Other:

    • Passion for youth development and the arts.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

    • Background check required (ASM Standard).




Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working with middle and high school-aged students in an afterschool program.

  • Familiarity with current trends and techniques in music and performing arts education.

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
