Job Description - Lead Investigator

The Lead Investigator is responsible for overseeing the initial response and assignment of new incident cases, providing training and guidance to the department’s pool of investigators, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and reporting standards. The Lead Investigator plays a key role in maintaining data accuracy across tracking systems, responding to correspondence from OPWDD, and submitting investigation findings through appropriate state systems. 

  • Oversees the initial response and assignment of new cases to the department pool of investigators 
  • Provides training and guidance for the departments pool of investigators 
  • Ensures that all information entered into various tracking tools is accurate and thorough 
  • Monitors for correspondence from OPWDD via email and IRMA to ensure responses are provided 
  • Maintains a working knowledge of OPWDD, NYS Justice Center, Federal and State regulations 
  • Uploads completed investigations into IRMA, or completes investigation submissions via WSIR 
  • Completes investigations as assigned 
  • Attends meetings and participates in various committees as a representative of the department 
  • Responsible for aligning and demonstrating agency values while performing your job  

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience working with individuals who have intellectual/developmental disabilities 
  • At least 3 years of experience with OPWDD Incident Management 
  • Must have a working knowledge of OPWDD Incident Management regulations and requirements 
  • Performance must reflect excellence in organizational skills, confidentiality, time management, flexibility, computer skills and communication 
  • Must be able to successfully guide and train people on new tasks 
  • Must be able to successfully navigate crisis situations, and take lead in problem solving efforts
