Obsidian Solutions Group (OSG) seeks an experienced and highly skilled Lead Linguist to supervise translation and transcription activities, ensuring the highest level of linguistic accuracy. The ideal candidate will conduct quality control reviews, train and mentor junior linguists, and bring over 5 years of experience in the field. This role requires native proficiency in target languages and certification as a translator.

The mission of the FDLE Language Services contract is to translate, transcribe, and interpret wire, oral, or electronic communications in various locations across the state of Florida. 

Specific Responsibilities

• Supervise Translation and Transcription Activities: Oversee daily operations of translation and transcription tasks, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
• Ensure Linguistic Accuracy: Maintain high standards of linguistic quality, ensuring that translations and transcriptions are accurate and culturally appropriate.
• Conduct Quality Control Reviews: Perform thorough reviews of translated and transcribed materials to ensure consistency and accuracy.
• Train and Mentor Junior Linguists: Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior linguists to enhance their skills and performance.
• Collaborate with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers and other team members to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met.
• Develop and Implement Best Practices: Establish and enforce best practices and standard operating procedures for translation and transcription activities.

Requirements

• Native Proficiency in Target Languages: Demonstrate native-level fluency in the target languages.
• Certified Translator: Hold a recognized certification in translation.
• 5+ Years of Experience: Possess over 5 years of professional experience in translation and transcription.
• Strong Attention to Detail: Exhibit meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to linguistic excellence.
• Excellent Communication Skills: Possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Leadership Abilities: Demonstrate strong leadership and mentorship capabilities.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Exhibit the ability to identify and resolve linguistic and operational issues effectively.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Advanced Degree: A degree in linguistics, translation studies, or a related field.
• Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with translation and transcription software tools.
• Multilingual Abilities: Proficiency in multiple languages (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese Mandarin, Arabic, Farsi) is a plus.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Office environment in FDLE facilities, to include secure facilities with controlled access
• Non-standard work hours to include nights, weekends, and extended periods
• High stress and time sensitive tasks

Travel

• The Lead Linguist may be required to travel anywhere within the state of Florida with 48 hours notice
