ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Lead Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and safety of the company’s fleet of vehicles and equipment. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with leadership responsibilities, ensuring all service tasks are completed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Lead Mechanic also provides mentorship to mechanics, coordinates with vendors, and supports fleet operations to minimize downtime and maximize reliability.

Duties & Responsibilities

General Vehicle Maintenance

  • Perform oil changes, replace oil/air filters, and complete multi-point inspections.
  • Check tire pressure, tread depth, and perform tire changes as needed.
  • Top off fluids and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Dispose of used oil and maintain environmental compliance.

Fleet & Equipment Care

  • Inspect trailers, equipment, and vehicles for damage or wear.
  • Grease fittings, torque lug nuts, and ensure equipment is rental-ready.
  • Install Samsara cameras and GPS units in new vehicles.
  • Coordinate vehicle detailing and ensure all documentation is current.

Shop & Inventory Management

  • Maintain inventory of shop supplies and parts.
  • Organize and clean shop/garage areas on a regular schedule.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and accessible.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Assist with vehicle registration renewals and state inspections.
  • Maintain accurate service logs, repair records, and inspection reports.
  • Support insurance claims by providing documentation, photos, and vendor estimates.

Leadership & Coordination

  • Provide direction and mentorship to mechanics and maintenance staff.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, managers, and vendors.
  • Prioritize and assign tasks to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Support department managers with scheduling equipment rentals and availability.

  • Strong technical knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostics, and repairs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications preferred.
  • 2+ years of mechanic experience (fleet or heavy equipment strongly preferred).
  • Supervisory or lead experience is a plus.
  • Proficient in diagnostics, electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in various environments.

SCHEDULE:

  • Availability to work Monday- Friday from 6:30AM - 3:00PM
  • Competitive salary ranging from $20 to $25 hourly based on experience and knowledge.
