Position Overview

We’re seeking a seasoned Lead Orthodontic Assistant to join Red Dirt Orthodontics. You’ll work closely with our clinical team to ensure superior patient care, efficient operations, and a warm, professional office environment. This is an on-site leadership role at our practice focused on braces and orthodontic solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence & Patient Care

• Prepare patients for procedures: record medical/dental histories, capture intraoral photographs and X-rays, clean and polish teeth.
   
• Assist the orthodontist during bonding, debonding, archwire changes, bracket adjustments, and other treatments.
   
• Instruct patients on proper oral hygiene, appliance care, and treatment compliance.
   
• Monitor treatment progression and alert the orthodontist to any concerns or deviations.
   

Leadership & Training

• Mentor, train, and oversee junior assistants, coordinating schedules and delegating daily tasks.
   
• Serve as the clinical point of contact in the doctor’s (or practice manager’s) absence.
   
• Maintain thorough documentation of procedures, supplies, and patient records in compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
   

Administrative & Operational Support

• Assist in scheduling and patient follow-up, including coordinating appointment reminders and rebooking.
   
• Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure cohesive front-to-back office workflows.
   

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Stay current with best practices, continuing education, and relevant licensing requirements.
   
• Participate in safety training and office-wide quality control initiatives.
   

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Certified Orthodontic Assistant (COA) or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) with orthodontic specialization.
   
• Experience: At least 1–2 years in an orthodontic leadership or supervisory role preferred.
   
• Skills:
   
  • Strong mastery of orthodontic instruments, procedures, and appliance systems (e.g., braces, power chains, etc.).
     
  • Excellent communication and patient-interaction skills.
     
  • Leadership capabilities: team-building, training, problem-solving.
     
  • Organizational skills: multitasking, inventory control, treatment documentation.
     
• Certifications: CPR certification required; radiography/X-ray certification a plus.
   

Work Environment & Schedule

• Location: On-site at Red Dirt Orthodontics Yukon Location.
   
• Type: Full-time.
   
• Team: Collaborative environment including orthodontist(s), dental assistants, front-desk staff, and other clinical personnel.
