OYC Miami has a Post-High Program (for graduates ages 18-25) dedicated to guiding young

adults from under-resourced communities to realize their full potential. Providing comprehensive support services for post-secondary education or training required for their desired careers, the Post High Program prepares young adults  to become Positive Contributing Citizens in their communities. The Lead Post High Coordinator inspires, empowers and enriches the lives of post high young adults. The Lead Post High Coordinator supports post-high adults by monitoring their progress until they are 25 years old. Post-High young adults  are provided with 1:1 coaching and consultation, academic advising, assistance with financial aid and scholarship application processes, career exposure activities, job interview preparation, and information and referrals for key resources such as counseling, scholarship opportunities, and transportation. These promising young adults often return to OYC as speakers, mentors and instructors. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide academic support for all Overtown Youth Center (OYC Miami) graduates as well as young adults referred from the community. This includes but is not limited to: Determining  the need for services, determine area of interest for declaring a major and maintaining an 75% retention rate for all young adults on caseload.
  • Collaborate with High School Coordinators and College and Career Team Members on workshop delivery, career assessment, college access and college transition activities including, planning and executing college tours, in an effort to establish a working relationship with future post-high young adults and their parents
  • Attend annual college tours. (i.e., connect with Post High who attends schools in area)
  • Oversee the Post High Financial Planning sessions for upcoming high school seniors with College and Career Specialist. Target of 85% of Completion for graduating Senior Post High Financial Planning Sessions.
  • Collaborate with High School Coordinators and College and Career Team Members for annual senior parent meeting (i.e. organize speakers such as CAP Advisors and Local College representatives)
  • Collaborate with High School Coordinator and College and Career Team to enroll 85% of graduating seniors into Miami Dade College
  • Collaborate with the High School Coordinator and College and Career Team assisting 11th and 12th grade students to become positive contributing citizens.
  • Maintain and engage 85% of post high caseload through quarterly check-ins and post-high engagement opportunities  
  • Monitor status of each student in college or vocational programs at the end of each semester (i.e., registered, withdrawn, etc.) and employment placement
  • Handle confidential information with tact, discretion and in compliance with program expectations
  • Provide career guidance and counseling. This includes but is not limited to: major selection, resume review, job search strategies, coaching on cover letter writing, career interest inventories, and connections with career resources both inside and outside of participating university
  • Attending scheduled professional networking events to secure potential employment leads for program participants.
  • Maintains the maximum number of participants enrolled in the OYC program and monitors regular attendance.
  • Develop and maintain post-high student file according to OYC Miami standards (Assessments, Individual Success Plans, Progress Notes Responsibilities include case management services for young adults transitioning from high school to college, college application and financial aid assistance, identifying scholarships, internships, job/internship opportunities, etc.
  • Provide case coordination services (information, plan referral and linkages) as needed
  • Coordinate services with other professionals and paraprofessionals.
  • Ensure attendance and other data is submitted in a timely manner.
  • Act as a liaison with the schools that we service.
  • Ability to carry out responsibilities and adapt to changing needs and goals
  • Build relationships with businesses/corporations for Post High internships and employment 
  • Build relationships with colleges, universities, and technical/career training schools to effectively support the college and career planning of post-high young adults
  • Participate in the quality improvement process.
  • Participate in weekly case staffing.
  • Monitoring student progress in post-secondary education as applicable
  • Oversee disbursement of OYC Miami scholarship for Post High (i.e. managing all scholarship requests, managing all scholarship balances with collaboration with Director and Finance Department)
  • Strategically execute all Post High Event consistent with engagement with attendance and participation.
  • Ensure accuracy of al Post High information and data for reliable data
  • Acts as a liaison with community resources
  • Visits local colleges of Post High young adults (e.g., Miami Dade College, FIU, FMU, Barry University, University of Miami, Lindsay Hopkins Technical College, etc.)

Requirements

  •  Associate degree in social work, education, or human services related field
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience working within youth/young adult programs 
  • Good writing skills
  • Ability to be flexibility is required (hours, job functions, etc.)
  • Familiar with ACT, SAT and Financial Aid
  • Moderate computer skills / Microsoft Office
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Must pass drug screening and Level 2 background fingerprint
