Description

Oversees and coordinates the daily operations of  the radiology department, ensuring compliance with state regulations and other  healthcare standards. This role involves imaging responsibility, preceptor  responsibility, clinical instructor responsibility, department staff scheduling, and  compliance with state and regulatory bodies. The Lead Radiologic Technologist plays  a key role in training new hires, mentoring, and ensuring the department adheres to  all legal and safety requirements 

Functions of the Position (not an exhaustive list):

  • Perform various radiologic examinations, including X-rays, CT scans, MRI, and  other diagnostic imaging studies (with in scope of practice), ensuring high quality images for accurate diagnosis 
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for new radiologic technologists and  technologist assistants, providing guidance, training, and support 
  • Coordinate clinical training for radiologic technology students, providing  hands-on training and supervision. 
  • Ensure the radiology department complies with all applicable state and federal  regulations, including radiation safety and patient confidentiality. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PACS-related issues, ensuring minimal disruption to  workflow
  • Train and support staff in using PACS effectively, including best practices for  image storage, retrieval, and sharing 
  • Collaborate with the Diagnostic Imaging Director on departmental initiatives,  including equipment maintenance, quality assurance, and staff development 

Requirements

Qualifications: 

a. Education: 

  • Graduate of a formal Accredited School of Radiological Technology. 

  • Dual modality 

  • Registered as a Radiological Technician by the American Registry of Radiologic  Technologists (ARRT)  

  • Minimum of five years of experience as a technologist with progressive  leadership responsibilities 

  • Maintains licensure/certification through continuing Education. 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified. 

b. Necessary Skills: 

  • Familiarity with DNV medical imaging Standards. 

  • Effective time management to set priorities and meet deadlines. 

  • Ability for rapid mental/muscular coordination simultaneously. 

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to guide and mentor a team. 

  • Knowledge of compliance and state regulatory requirements relevant to  radiologic technology. 

c. Physical Demands: 

  • Constant standing or walking. 

  • Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. 

  • Push/pull wheelchairs, stretchers, or patients up to 250 lbs. 

  • Manual dexterity and mobility. 

  • Reaching at all levels. 

  • Stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. 

  • radiation exposure. 

  • Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens. 

  • Handling toxic or caustic chemicals. 

  • Possible risk of electric shock   

d. Protective Equipment Required: 

  • Safety glasses. 

  • Occasional use of rubber gloves or hearing protection. 

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. 

  • Operating room (OR) coverings. 

  • Lead apron for prolonged periods.
