Job Description - Lead Software Engineer

In a high visibility, high pressure role; designs, develops, configures, and maintains enterprise IBM Z machine infrastructure systems as well as installed third-party systems components to ensure reliability in accordance with user needs and technical specifications while meeting defined service level agreements for availability and file delivery. Recognizes and troubleshoots problems with hardware, operating systems, and third-party software running on an IBM Mainframe; and proactively eliminates roadblocks to potential processing challenges. Maintains a

consultatively collaborative relationship with infrastructure, business, and application partners; as well as clients and vendors. Performs and supports operational processes improvements and automation across multiple environments ensuring all tasks are managed and conducted to the highest possible standards.

Establishes and documents standards and procedures (including disaster recovery procedures) for compliance and audit. As a multi discipline SME elevates technical competency while communicating with and providing technical support and metric reporting to system users as well as internal & external clients.

Seeks to drive efficiency through automation while increasing stability, reducing risk, and minimizing expense.What Part Will You Play?

As part of a team, with minimal supervision while providing technical guidance to junior team

members:Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering mainframe computer capacity and limitations, operating time and desired results

Works closely with operations teams to ensure successful peak days processing; timely SLA delivery, and implementation of processing efficiency improvements while maintaining availability

Prepares charts and diagrams to assist in problem analysis; driving to

recommendations for solutions

SLA Trend analysis, Batch Performance tuning, Class & Priority tuning, initiator structure tuning

System analysis - Ability to monitor, recognize, and escalate system issues impacting services in a rapidly evolving and dynamic environment

Configures IBM Z machines in a complex environment of multiple Parallel Sysplex’s, maximizing performance of z/OS systems and applications, while minimizing risk and expense

Defines, analyzes and adjusts WLM performance goals of workloads to achieve satisfactory response time and maintain SLA attainment

Projects, recommends, and implements resource needs to support organic growth and planned software/hardware changes using SMF/RMF data, statistical modeling, zPCR, and in house developed VBA and Python tools.

Supports disaster recovery procedures, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of disaster recovery techniques and drives to ever faster RTO’s.

Generates concise and compelling capacity and system KPI’s,

communicating them clearly to higher levels and for executive summary.

Enhances the automation of a large knowledge repository using SAS/MXG to process SMF & RMF data.

Provides IBM Z infrastructure technical expertise throughout the software and hardware lifecycle including design, implementation and delivery.

Works directly with internal and external clients translating knowledge and data analysis into impactful insight.

What Are We Looking For in This Role?

Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science preferred, other majors considered. Willing to accept additional experience in lieu of a degree

Minimum 8 Years experience in system administration in a highly available enterprise environment

Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills

Team Player, able to work independently, while still bringing strong collaborative and consultative skills to bear

Self starting learner with deep sense of ownership over assigned areas

Working knowledge of JCL, SAS, VBA, SMF, RMF, WLM, and zPCR

Expertise in Statistical and data analysis

Proficient with MS Office - particularly Excel; likes math, numbers, charts, logic

Analytical solution oriented thinker, strong deductive reasoning skills able to turn data into insight

Able to Multitask, identify critical tasks, and prioritize work appropriately

Applicants with less experience may be considered for a lower level position

Preferred QualificationsFamiliar with TSYS TS1, TS2 commercial and consumer batch schedules

Experience with SQL, COBOL, JCL, IMS, DB2, Python

Any Computer Programming Experience a plus.

6+ yrs Mainframe capacity planning and system performance experience.

6+ yrs experience with z/OS subsystems DB2, IMS, CICS, MQ, and/or Storage.

6+ yrs TSYS experience.

Working knowledge of REXX and/or Python.

MXG Codeshark .
