The Opportunity:
As a Project and/or Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for technical leadership of US Government and DoD technology development with an initial emphasis on Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) systems.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage technology development for a system of systems with a high degree of complexity.
- Develop and implement processes to help a multi-disciplinary team drive technical progress on multiple fronts simultaneously.
- Review the results of theoretical models and simulations developed by technical team members and work with the technical team to drive decisions based on theoretical and experimental data.
- Develop test protocols and oversee testing of inertial sensors and systems. Work with the technical team to analyze data and drive decisions for next steps.
- Integrate technical inputs from team and provide monthly technical progress updates (PowerPoint) to internal and external customers, as well as occasional written reports.
- Leverage a strong technical background enabling interaction with customers’ systems engineers, hardware/electrical/software engineers, and other technical staff members.
- Support preparation of proposals, RFI responses, whitepapers, etc.
- Generate cost baselines and work breakdown structures to support internal cost and price reviews.
- Travel within the U.S. and internationally to support program reviews and other customer interactions.
What You Bring to Safran Federal Systems:
- 6+ years of experience in inertial sensor design and development
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering/ Physics/ Optics/ Material Science
- Working knowledge of U.S. Defense funding and acquisition process
- Technical writing skill and experience – academic thesis, whitepapers, project proposals, project reports; ability to support technical writing with high quality graphics/ charts/ schematics
- Speaking/ Presentation/ Dialogue Skills – white board, small and large group presentations; high degree of comfort speaking senior military and staff personnel; ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals; intuitive ability to pivot from presentation to dialogue as appropriate
- Strong customer focus, ownership, urgency and drive
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly
- Self-motivated, and ability to self-prioritize effectively to achieve goals; ability to forge a clear path amid uncertainty and ambiguity
- High level of skill communicating effectively across internal and external organizations, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to travel
- Proficient in Positioning, Navigation and Timing technologies or related high-tech industry preferred
- The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives, to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to interact appropriately with a variety of individuals including customers/clients.
