Job Title:           LEAD TEACHER –EARLY CHILDHOOD AND EXTENDED CARE


Department:      Youth Education


Reports to:        Director of Youth Education


FLSA:                 Full-Time, Non-exempt, Benefits eligible


 


Summary


The Lead Teacher—Early Childhood and Extended Care is a non-exempt, full-time position with duties both indoors and outdoors. The Lead Teacher must be a positive role model. The Lead Teacher is directly responsible for the safety, welfare, supervision, and progress of the children in their care.
The Lead Teacher is responsible for assisting the Recreation Supervisor in the organization, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of recreation programs including, but not limited to, Extended Care, days off school camps and special events, special youth age programs. The Lead Teacher must fulfill the annual 15 to 20 clock hours of continuing education according to the DCFS Standards, and participate in Parent conferences and/or prepare written parent reports. The Lead Teacher—Early Childhood and Extended Care is expected to be versatile, working in the pre-school, school buildings, and field.



Qualifications



  • Present documentation of current CPR/ first aid certification

  • Finger printing and background search as required by DCFS Standards

  • Must be at least 19 years of age according to the DCFS Standards with a high school diploma or equivalency (GED)
                                                                            AND

  • 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester hours or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child-care/child development
                                                                            OR

  • One year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, Kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to childcare/child development from birth to age six.
                                                                            OR

  • Possess a current CDA Credential (Child Development Associate).
