Job Description - Lead Utilization Management Coordinator- Fulltime

Houston Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (HBHH) currently has an opening for Full-time Lead Utilization Management Coordinator, Monday-Friday, 8a-4p.

The Lead Utilization Management Coordinator will report to the Director of Utilization Review and will be responsible to provide quality case management services to all patients and their families, to serve as a member of interdisciplinary team supporting the organization's treatment program and philosophy, and assure the deliverance of quality treatment to patients and their families.

Duties:

  • Assists with collecting information from patients, families and legal guardian that will help to develop treatment and discharge plans.
  • Develops and coordinates an individualized discharge plan for the patient by utilizing treatment team and written chart information to determine the patient's aftercare needs. Access by phone or written correspondence with family or community resources such as nursing homes, group homes, or private mental health practitioners to meet patients' aftercare needs. Exhibits cooperative interactions with others. Takes responsibility for own action.
  • Coordinates with physician individualized discharge planning for patients.
  • Documents services provided to patients or on behalf of patients in medical record and AIS.
  • Performs required task/duties accurately within established timeframes and requirements without the need for supervision. Consistently makes competent decisions. Pays close attention to details, captures all charges/avoids waste. Demonstrates the ability to effectively intervene with patients utilizing best practice efforts while considering patient need and staff efficiency requirements. Demonstrates good working knowledge of the continuum of care to facilitate placement of patients in the appropriate level of care
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings; facilitates communication and problem solving related to discharge planning.
  • Demonstrates technical skills in use of computer applications, telephone skills, etc. to support efficient and effective outcome. Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in the changing work environment to optimize patient care.
  • Assist with chart audits and completion of medical records.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of human anatomy, specifically musculoskeletal
  • Proficient use of CPT and ICD-10 codes
  • Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word, and Internet use
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Plans and prioritizes to meet deadlines
  • Excellent customer service skills; communicates clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to multitask and remain focused while managing a high-volume, time-sensitive workload

Schedule: Fulltime

  • Monday -Friday
  • 8am-4pm

High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Bachelors Degree in Psychology or related field preferred.

1 year experience in a medical related field and/or prior authorization experience preferred.

3 years behavioral health experience preferred.

CPR (Upon completion in Orientation or have a current CPR) and Hospital De-escalation Certification (Upon completion in Orientation)

Knowledge of healthcare service delivery systems, and third party reimbursement.

Knowledgeable of Managed Care Environment.

Reliable and flexible.
