Position Summary: The Welding lead is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the execution of active fabrication projects within the welding department. This position ensures effective workload distribution, employee training, and adherence to quality and safety standards. This position will also support accurate time reporting for workload. The weld lead serves as a key liaison between the Shop Manager, project teams, and support departments to ensure the smooth progression of projects from start to finish while upholding Bio Fab's standards of professionalism, quality, and efficiency.Key Responsibilities: Welding Department Leadership / Ownership
Manage and coordinate workload across active projects in welding department for self and welding staff.
Collaborate with the Shop Manager to optimize employee allocation and shop floor utilization.
Ensure appropriate shop space is available for entire project builds.
Provide daily updates to the Shop Manager or Project Manager regarding active jobs in welding.
Maintain and update the project status board as needed.
Employee Training & Oversight
Provide on-the-job training to employees in the welding group.
Assist team members in reading and interpreting prints and job specifications.
Monitor employee progress and conduct in-process and post-completion inspections.
Work with the Shop Manager to schedule and allocate time for training initiatives.
Quality Control & Support
Take ownership of quality assurance within welding department.
Perform regular inspections to ensure completed work meets internal standards and project requirements.
Process & Standards Compliance
Understand and promote adherence to ASME procedures and standards.
Educate and mentor employees on the importance of following established procedures and protocols.
Professionalism & Communication
Represent Bio Fab with professionalism in all verbal and written communication.
Maintain a positive, solutions-oriented attitude, even under pressure.
Support team cohesion and contribute to a constructive and respectful workplace culture.
Team & Company Support
Actively support the growth and development of Bio Fab and its employees.
Identify and report issues that may hinder project timelines or performance.
Communicate project-related needs to Shop Manager or Project Manager in a timely manner.
Departmental Coordination
Coordinate with the Polishing Department regarding project-specific polishing requirements.
Ensure proper and timely communication to meet project deadlines.
Safety & Policy Enforcement
Promote and participate in maintaining a safe working environment.
Conduct or assist with shop safety inspections as needed.
Monitor and enforce compliance with safety policies and procedures for all welding related work.
Production Support
Assist the Shop Manager with daily production activities and general shop operations as needed.
Qualifications: Required:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certifications preferred.
5+ years of experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of mechanical drawings and fabrication processes.
Experience leading or coordinating a team in a production setting.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
Knowledge of ASME standards.
Prior experience in a quality assurance or training role.
Familiarity with project management tools or boards.
