Job Title: Learning & Student Support Specialist K-8
Department: Upper School
Reports To: Upper School Director

Salary Range: $52,000 - $75,000 per year
Job Responsibilities
- Student Observations: Conduct formal and informal classroom observations to identify learning barriers, behavioral triggers, and academic gaps.
- Administer and interpret internal academic screenings and progress-monitoring tools.
- Act as the school’s expert in reviewing outside neuropsychological and educational evaluations to determine necessary internal supports.
- Partner with the Admissions team to review prospective student files and assess the school’s capacity to provide required services.
- Deliver 1:1 and small-group specialized instruction using the Science of Reading, Orton-Gillingham, and Heggerty methods.
- Implement fundamental math interventions and provide direct executive functioning coaching for students needing organizational support.
- Create and adapt specific lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to individual student profiles.
- Serve as the central coordinator for the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), ensuring that referral and intervention cycles move efficiently.
- Write, implement, and monitor Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) or accommodation plans for students.
- Maintain meticulous records of student performance, behavior data, and progress toward specific goals.
- Manage relationships and schedules for external specialists (SLPs, OTs, etc.) working on-site.
- Lead all communication with parents regarding their child’s support needs, progress updates, and long-term academic planning.
- Facilitate parent-teacher meetings focused specifically on student interventions and data-driven outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Reading Science, or Learning Disabilities.
- Required certification or intensive training in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or similar multisensory literacy programs.
- 3–5+ years of direct experience providing student interventions in early literacy and fundamental math concepts in a K-8 setting
- Familiarity with Montessori pedagogy and practices is ideal
- A track record of using data-driven interventions to achieve measurable growth in student performance.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent record-keeping abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to connect effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- Collaborative team player with the ability to work across various roles and levels within the school community
