Job Description - Learning Coordinator

Department: Library Administration

Reports to: Associate Director

Nature of Work

Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Learning Coordinator oversees a strategic approach to staff development at the Library. Primary responsibilities of this position will be to develop an annual training plan, budget, and calendar. The Learning Coordinator will serve as the Library’s main contact with the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives to ensure that all staff are appropriately certified.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Identifies training and development needs of staff at all organizational levels through a variety of methods, including but not limited to, surveys, personal interviews, and group meetings.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources and branch managers to provide new hire orientation and onboarding, with a focus on the skill-building in the employee’s introductory period. 
  • Visits branches and department work areas to administer training, as necessary.
  • Collaborates with Associate Director to design large-scale employee events, such as Staff Day. 
  • Works closely with the Associate Director to manage staff records, including training completed, conferences attended, and other learning documentation.
  • Communicates regularly with staff at the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives to stay informed about updates in the certification process and opportunities for training.
  • Coordinates with the IT team to ensure appropriate technology is available to all staff to engage in learning activities.
  • Provides data to the Library Administration to support evaluation of learning activities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Ability to effectively interpret the Library’s Strategic Plan to staff, vendors, and members of the public.
  • Knowledge of trends and methodologies for training adults, particularly in customer service.
  • Skill in communicating with people of diverse backgrounds. 
  • Skill in managing records and collecting data.
  • Skill in adopting technology to enhance project outcomes.
  • Ability to set priorities and work with frequent interruptions. 
  • Ability to work independently and in groups. 
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to apply principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to plan, organize, perform, and evaluate work assignments with initiative and sound judgment, independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adhere to Library policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Ability to move objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Education, Human Resources, or Organizational Development.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in instructional design, such as curriculum development or lesson plans.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work primarily in a sedentary position, occasionally using force to lift, carry, or otherwise move objects normally found in an office setting.

  • The employee is subject to the inside environmental conditions.
