Location: Southern Maine, Multiple Locations Schedule: Part-time After School (Sept - May) Compensation: $27.56 ABOUT US

ABOUT LEARNINGWORKS AFTERSCHOOL (LWAS)


LearningWorks Afterschool (LWAS) provides high-quality academic intervention and enrichment programming for elementary students. LWAS partners with local school districts to help students strengthen foundational literacy and mathematics skills, improve school engagement, and develop the social-emotional skills necessary for long-term academic success.


LearningWorks Afterschool is funded primarily through 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grants and is delivered in partnership with local school districts.


POSITION OVERVIEW


The Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging afterschool instruction support to elementary students participating in the LearningWorks Afterschool Program.


Working closely with the Site Coordinator and program staff, the Teacher creates a structured, inclusive learning environment where students receive targeted academic support, develop positive learning habits, and build confidence both inside and outside the classroom.


In addition to instructional time, teachers participate in pre-program planning, weekly team meetings, lesson preparation, and required professional development.


WHAT YOU'LL DO



  • Deliver engaging academic lessons and enrichment activities that reinforce school-day learning

  • Review lesson plans, instructional materials, and substitute plans as needed.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, behavioral, and developmental needs of students.

  • Establish, teach, and consistently reinforce clear expectations for student behavior that align with partner school practices.

  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction to support students who are performing below grade level or need additional academic assistance.

  • Monitor student engagement and progress, adjusting instructional strategies to support student success.

  • Maintain accurate student attendance records and other required program documentation.

  • Participate in weekly team meetings to reflect on student progress, program implementation, and continuous improvement.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING



  • Experience teaching or working with elementary-aged students.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and classroom management skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Google Workspace, Zoom, and other educational technology tools.

  • Flexibility, creativity, and the ability to adapt instruction based on student needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and school partners.


QUALIFICATIONS



  • State of Maine Teaching Certification or eligibility for certification required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field required.

  • Experience teaching in an elementary school, afterschool, or youth development setting preferred.
