Legal Ops

About the role:

Hex’s legal function has gone from zero to a fully operating system in under a year. Now we need someone to own and scale the operating layer so it holds as the company grows. This is a builder role.

You’ll run contract operations end to end: CLM administration, workflow optimization, template and playbook maintenance, enablement and training for the revenue team, and first-pass review and redlining of standard agreements against our playbook. Beyond contracts, you’ll build structured intake for every legal workstream across the company, own the legal governance record (privacy registers, AI inventory, compliance calendars), manage outside counsel relationships, and own the legal tech stack. We sit at the nexus of data, AI, and collaboration, which means our legal operations have to be as thoughtful as our product.

We use AI tooling across legal operations, and you’ll work the same way: building agents and automations to move faster, not as a side project but as the default way things get done here. If you see a manual workflow and instinctively want to build it away, you’ll feel right at home.

What you will do:

• Drive CLM adoption and enablement so the revenue team self-serves on standard deals


• Own workflow optimization, templates, and playbooks as deal structures and products evolve


• First-pass review and redlining of standard agreements; draft from templates as volume requires


• Build and own structured intake for legal workstreams across the company


• Build AI-powered workflows, agents, and automations that replace manual processes


• Maintain the legal governance record: privacy registers, AI inventory, compliance calendars


• Train cross-functional teams on self-service tools and escalation paths


• Manage outside counsel relationships and the legal tech stack

About You:

• 3-5+ years in legal operations, paralegal, or contract management, with at least 1-2 years in-house at a tech or SaaS company


• You’ve implemented or rebuilt a CLM (Ironclad preferred), designed intake workflows, and stood up reporting someone relied on


• Experience reviewing and redlining commercial agreements on both sell-side and buy-side paper


• You build with AI and automation as a natural part of how you work. You’re comfortable across AI-assisted legal tools, LLMs, and automation platforms, and willing to experiment with new ones as they emerge. This isn’t a nice-to-have at Hex.


• Comfortable operating with autonomy in a role with a lot of white space


• Good judgment about what you can handle and what needs a lawyer


• You care whether people actually use what you build

Nice to have:

• Experience at a company navigating exponential growth


• Experience with corporate governance (entity management, board materials, annual filings)


• Has used Hex


• Strong opinions about the best way to organize a Notion workspace

The salary range for this role is: $124,125 - $165,500. 

The salary range shown may be a reflection of additional factors such as geographical location and skill ranges/levels we’re open to. Placement in the salary range will be decided upon completion of the interview process, taking into account factors like leaving room for growth, internal fairness & parity, your demonstrated skills, and the depth of your experience.
