Operates and supervises the media center to which assigned.
Evaluates, selects, orders, and requisitions new media center materials.
Maintains file of catalog cards, vertical file materials, publisher’s catalogs, etc.
Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and makes media center materials available to supplement the instructional program.
Informs teachers and other staff members of new materials the media center acquires.
Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for all media center materials and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
Arranges for inter-library loan of materials of interest or use to teachers.
Readies materials for reserve on teachers’ request and maintains the reserve self.
Writes weekly notices to homeroom teachers concerning overdue books and collects fines for such books.
Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources.
Promotes appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities.
Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignment.
Helps students locate reference materials and other instructional materials.
Presents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher.
Reads to small groups of students.
Assists teachers in maintaining proper student discipline of classes using the media center.
Participates in curriculum meetings.
Counsels with and gives reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interest.
Arranges frequently changing books-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center’s patrons.
Prepares and administers the media center budget.
Makes simple repairs on damaged books and processes more severely damaged books for repair at the bindery.
Requirements
Hold a valid Arizona Department of Education Teaching Certificate in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Secondary, or Special Education with a Library-Media Specialist, PreK-12 endorsement.
B.A. or B. S. in Library Science.
Related experience is required.
Bilingual or ESL Endorsement required.
Must have proven successful employment record.
