We're looking for a Spanish-speaking Librarian or Library Associate who will play a meaningful role within the New Jersey Public Library System.

Salary/Hourly Rate: $18.70 - $34.28

Position Overview:

As a Librarian or Library Associate within the New Jersey Public Library System, you will perform professional library activities to meet the educational, recreational, and cultural information needs of the community and ensure that patrons of your assigned branch(es) feel welcome at their library. 

The ideal Librarian candidate speaks Spanish and is passionate about providing excellent customer service, developing strong community relationships, and working collaboratively with others.

Job Responsibilities:

• Perform general library practices, as well as the practices of the specific libraries as assigned.
• Respond to requests in person, over the phone, and/or via email to answer questions and locate information.
• Teach a variety of skills to patrons of all ages, particularly research skills.
• Keep up with information management trends.
• Create and publish web-based content including research tutorials, subject guides, course guides, promotional spots, and information pieces.
• Manage patron access to resources.

Required Qualifications:

• Experience working in public, academic, and/or corporate libraries.
• Spanish proficiency.
• Strong customer service skills, with the ability to work with the public and with people of all ages.
• Ability to operate a computer, library software, web browsers, and an e-mail interface.
• Capacity to read, write, and speak in English sufficiently to perform duties in person and on telephone.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, lift, stand, and ambulate, as needed, as relevant to the position. Daily tasks require lifting, carrying, moving, and manipulating books and other library material, as well as pushing a loaded cart full of books.

Education Requirements:

• Master’s degree preferred (MLS, MLIS).
• Bachelor’s degree required.
