The License and Permitting Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all company drivers, vehicles, and operations are fully compliant with federal, state, and local regulations. This includes obtaining and maintaining commercial driver licenses (CDLs), vehicle registrations, DOT numbers, IRP (International Registration Plan), IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement), oversize/overweight permits, and other required documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage the renewal and issuance of all required permits and licenses (CDL, IRP, IFTA, UCR, DOT, etc.)
- Maintain driver qualification files in compliance with FMCSA regulations
- Monitor expiration dates and proactively renew permits and licenses
- Process vehicle titles, registrations, and plates across multiple jurisdictions
- Apply for trip permits, temporary fuel permits, and oversize/overweight permits as needed
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements from the DOT, FMCSA, and other state/federal agencies
- Communicate with government agencies regarding filings and permit status
- Keep accurate records of all licensing and permitting documentation
- Assist in preparing for audits and inspections
- Support dispatch and operations teams with regulatory questions and permit needs
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred
- 2+ years of experience in transportation compliance, licensing, or permitting (trucking industry preferred)
- Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, IRP, and IFTA regulations
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and transportation compliance software
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping
