Job Description - Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor Supervisor

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 





  • Provide individual counseling, group counseling, case management, crisis intervention that addresses the goals established on the treatment plan 





  • Document services provided in appropriate client files according to Recovery in Motion’s policies and procedures and standards established by governing bodies 





  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans that meet the individual needs of the client. Treatment plans will be completed in accordance with Recovery in Motion’s policies and procedures and standards established by governing bodies 





  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and supervision meetings  





  • Conduct weekly individual supervision meetings with clinicians and interns 





  • Responsible for disciplinary action in response to employee problems, performance or behavior; including but not limited to, verbal, written and performance improvement plan 





  • Coordinate care with outside providers such as court, Department of Corrections, and other referral sources and provide appropriate information as requested 





  • Discharge duties in accordance with contracts, licensure standards, and Recovery in Motion’s policies and procedures 





  • Exhibits knowledge of core competencies in relation to working with co-occurring disorders through continuing education and implementing skills into all aspects of treatment 





  • Maintain current knowledge of site and client activities  





  • Plan work tasks to coincide with programming requirements 





  • Set priorities in monitoring clients, making house rounds, documentation of pertinent information and completion of other assignments 





  • Available in a friendly respectful dignified manner, to clients for questions and other assistance 





  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously 





  • Highly dependable and can be counted on to work independently, having the ability to work with little direction 







  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of program philosophy and polices and procedures, 245G requirements, house operations, including client rights and confidentiality 





  • Complete intake/admission procedures, orientation of new clients and co-workers  





  • Encourage clients to achieve their goals by functioning as a positive role model 





  • Serve as a resource for clients through knowledge of services and opportunities in the community 





  • Accurate documentation of client information in the communications log and completion of other forms 





  • A clear understanding of the program mission and how his/her work integrates with and advances the goals of the program 





  • Respond to client conflict resolution, grievances, and clinical disciplinary issues  





  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the supervisor 





  • Use sound decision making skills, exhibiting good judgment and realistic understanding of issues 




Required Skills and Experience (Minimum Requirements): 





  • Must meet the qualification requirements for an alcohol and drug counselor, noted below under 





  • An alcohol and drug counselor must either​ be licensed or exempt from licensure under chapter 148F. 





  • An individual who is exempt from licensure under chapter 148F must meet one for the following additional requirements:​  





  • completion of at least a baccalaureate degree with a major or concentration in social work, nursing,​ sociology, human services, or psychology, or licensure as a registered nurse; successful completion of a​ minimum of 120 hours of classroom instruction in which each of the core functions listed in chapter 148F​ is covered; and successful completion of 440 hours of supervised experience as an alcohol and drug counselor,​ either as a student or a staff member;​  





  • completion of at least 270 hours of drug counselor training in which each of the core functions listed​ in chapter 148F is covered, and successful completion of 880 hours of supervised experience as an alcohol​ and drug counselor, either as a student or as a staff member;​  





  • current certification as an alcohol and drug counselor or alcohol and drug counselor reciprocal,​ through the evaluation process established by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium​ Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, Inc.;​  





  • completion of a bachelor's degree including 480 hours of alcohol and drug counseling education​ from an accredited school or educational program and 880 hours of alcohol and drug counseling practicum;​ or​ 





  • employment in a program formerly licensed under Minnesota Rules, parts 9530.5000 to 9530.6400,​ and successful completion of 6,000 hours of supervised work experience in a licensed program as an alcohol​ and drug counselor prior to January 1, 2005.​  





  • Have three or more years of experience providing individual and group counseling to individuals​ with substance use disorder;  





  • Know and understand the implications of chapter 245G, sections 245A.65, 626.557, and 626.5572,​ and chapter 260E. 







  • CPR certification or attain within 30-days  





  • Complete background study 





  • Valid driver’s license 





  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and other computer skills  




Additional Skills and Experience (Preferred): 





  • Master’s degree in a human service field  





  • Specialty training such as DBT, CBT, MI, ect
