Job Description - Licensed Behavioral Health Therapist

OVERVIEW:


The Behavioral Health Clinician/Therapist will promote Catholic Charities' mission and values and build effective relationships that inspire others to action inside and outside the organization. Knowledge and experience in treating trauma using trauma-informed care are essential. This role requires someone adaptable, self-reflective, and an empathetic team player with strong interpersonal skills and a desire to support the needs of children, families, adults, older adults, and probation youth. The Behavioral Health Clinician/Therapist will bring an understanding of cultural competency, conflict resolution, self-initiative, evidence-based practices, and a genuine interest in professional and personal growth. This individual should also demonstrate interest and proven skill in implementing best practices.


The Behavioral Health Division serves clients under multiple programs:


Family and Children (F&C)

Supportive Therapeutic Options Program (STOP)

CalWorks

Prevention and Early Intervention-school based (PEI)

Golden Gateway

Wellness & Recovery Medication Services (WARMS)

Responsive Intervention Services and Intervention (RISE)

POSITION SUMMARY:


The Behavioral Health Therapist will provide case management and supportive services for children and families, adults, older adults, and probation youth.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE CLINICAL SERVICES PROGRAM:



  • Provide individual and group therapy to clients

  • Maintain documentation per Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Division and Catholic Charities standards in the AWARDS data system.

  • Work with clients (ages 6-90) dealing with trauma, behavioral and mental health issues, including dual diagnosis or addictions, and cognitive disabilities.

  • Under the AOA program, assist older adult clients with basic living needs (shelter, clothing, etc.)

  • Consult with individual clients or families about community knowledge, needed resources, and their strengths in accessing services, including utility discounts and other essential services.

  • Provide identifying appropriate community resources and consultation to the client regarding those resources to accomplish their goals.

  • Under the RISE program, work closely with the Probation Officers and juvenile hall to support youth on probation.

  • Conduct group sessions for resource sharing and learning socialization skills.

  • Work closely with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, vocational programs, therapists, legal representatives/guardians, Veteran’s Administration staff, Department of Mental Health / Drugs and Alcohol staff, parole and probation officers, judges, police, and other community services/organizations to assure the individual’s access to services and the service delivery systems.

  • Crisis intervention and create safety plans with the client.

  • Collaborate with the case manager, schools, and other agencies for additional resources.

  • Conduct intake, and assessment, create treatment plans, diagnose and document according to DSM V.

  • Engage clients and family using evidence-based practices, Trauma-Informed CBT, Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational

  • Interviewing to reduce trauma symptoms and provide coping skills to improve family functioning.

  • Attend all necessary staff meetings to facilitate client services coordination and collaboration.

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:



  • Maintain a caseload of 16-18 cases

  • Meet with clients at a minimum of a weekly basis-in-person/telephone and telehealth

  • Provide community-based services for sessions and assistance as needed

  • Must meet a minimum standard of 104 hours of productivity per month

  • Complete all progress notes within five business days of service

  • Attend weekly individual supervision and weekly team meetings

  • Provide weekly schedule to the program supervisor, program assistant, and others in the program as requested


QUALIFICATIONS:


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED



  • Graduate degree in MSW, MA, or MS in counseling, psychology, or related field

  • Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) registration as LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, or licensed psychologist.

  • Bilingual Spanish/English highly preferred

  • Certified in Triple P Teen- Recommended

  • Counseling experience in a community-based setting

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of DSM V

  • Understanding of Medi-Cal eligible service provision and billing requirements

  • Understanding of and sensitivity toward economic and cultural issues in diverse communities

  • Demonstrated computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, and Internet usage)

  • Ability to pass certification requirements for CANS assessment 90 days of hire (training and support will be provided)

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, strength-based, and motivational interviewing skills.

  • Availability to work flexible hours, e.g., evening until 7:00 pm and Saturdays.

  • Team oriented with strong interpersonal and organizational skills


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Willing to go to clients or community agencies as necessary through own vehicle or public transport. If using your car, clean DMV record, proof of current auto insurance, and valid driver's license.

  • Successful results from a criminal background check, including fingerprint clearance.

  • Provide TB screening test results

  • Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster status


COMPENSATION:



  • Starting salary range $85,000-95,000/year. Contingent on completed clinical hours and BBS registration.


MANDATED REPORTER STATUS


This position requires you to work with adults and children, and your profession qualifies you as "mandated reporters" of Elder abuse or neglect. Child abuse or neglect, which is found in California Penal Code Section 11164-11174.3 and Welfare and Institution Code 15610-15610.70. In addition, you are required to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect and Elder abuse and neglect.
