Full-time (30+ hours/week)


Primary Location: Del Rio, TX


Travel Requirement: 5-10%


Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm

West Texas Counseling & Guidance (WTCG) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization working to ensure that individuals and families seeking mental health treatment should have access to counseling services, regardless of their socioeconomic status and ability to pay. Our mission is to enable individuals and families to reach their full potential in body, mind, and spirit, using evidence-based counseling and educational services. Services offered by WTCG include individual therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma, premarital counseling, couples and family counseling, veteran services, children's play therapy, and anger management.



Position Overview


The full-time Therapist/Counselor provides community-based mental health services, including individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy, as well as psychoeducation and consultation within their scope of training, practice and licensure. This position is responsible for maintaining a consistent client schedule, completing timely clinical documentation, and engaging in community outreach and professional collaboration.


 


Clinicians are expected to maintain active professional licensure, adhere to all applicable codes of ethics, and comply with state and federal privacy regulations, including HIPAA and the Texas Medical Privacy Act. The Therapist/Counselor plays a vital role in supporting WTCG’s mission by providing compassionate, evidence-based care and promoting mental health awareness in the community. Clinical staff report to the Chief Clinical Officer.



Key Responsibilities


Clinical Services



  • Provide evidence-based, ethical psychotherapy and counseling to clients across diverse populations.

  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning for clients presenting with potential harm to self or others and implement appropriate safety plans or referrals

  • Empower clients within their natural support systems and refer to community services when appropriate.

  • Maintain client records and documentation in compliance with agency policies and within three (3) business days.

  • Ensure adherence to scope of practice, licensure standards, and all applicable privacy regulations (HIPAA, Texas Health & Safety Code, Chapter 181).



Professional Standards & Compliance



  • Comply with all federal and state confidentiality laws and regulations (HIPAA, Texas Medical Privacy Act).

  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including documentation, confidentiality, and professional conduct.

  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of vulnerable individuals in compliance with legal mandates.

  • Complete continuing education requirements and training as requested by the agency.

  • Maintain active professional licensure and liability insurance.

  • Abide by all professional codes of ethics and standards of practice.


 


Administrative & Organizational Responsibilities



  • Maintain a consistent and organized schedule of client sessions, meetings, and administrative tasks.



  • Participate in staff meetings, peer and case consultations, and supervision sessions to support professional development.

  • Collaborate with the billing department to ensure accurate and timely submission of information for reimbursement.

  • Notify the Chief Clinical Officer of any absences and maintain consistent communication regarding client care.

  • Record sessions for supervision or training purposes as requested.



Community Engagement & Outreach



  • Build and maintain relationships with community agencies, referral sources, and partners.

  • Provide educational presentations, skill-building workshops, and outreach activities.

  • Contribute to marketing and outreach efforts through blogs, podcasts, social media, or community events.

  • Support fundraising and public relations activities as assigned.

  • Represent the agency professionally in all community interactions.


 


Qualifications



  1. Graduate or doctoral degree in a clinically relevant field.

  2. Current licensure as one of the following:

    1. Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

    2. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC or LPC-S)

    3. Licensed Professional Counselor Associate

    4. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

    5. Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) under LCSW supervision



  3. Minimum two (2) years of counseling or therapy experience, preferably in a community-based setting.

  4. Strong public speaking, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  6. Knowledge of community resources and social service systems.

  7. Training in suicide prevention and crisis intervention.

  8. Clinical competence or certification in at least one specialized area (e.g., ACT, Gottman, RPT, EMDR, CPT) within two years of hire.

  9. Knowledge and experience in the identification and reporting of abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

  11. Must pass a comprehensive background check.

  12. Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurability required.

  13. Preferred: Bilingual (English/Spanish); Veteran status; Texas licensure; experience treating substance use disorders, eating disorders, children, Veterans and families, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or personality disorders.



Physical Demands & Work Environment



  • Work is primarily performed in an office or telehealth setting with occasional community outreach.

  • Requires the ability to sit, stand, and use standard office equipment for extended periods.

  • May occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

  • Approximately 5–10% travel to surrounding areas; frequency varies based on clinical supervision, community events, and organizational priorities.
