Licensed Practical Nurse

 Truvista Surgical Center is currently hiring a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for their surgical center located in Troy, MI. 

This position will be Monday - Friday day shift.  No weekends, No call and no federal holidays shifts. 

In conjunction with the Clinical Director, the Licensed Practical Nurse performs a verbal assessment with the patient prior to admission via a phone interview as well as collects the patient’s medical history from previous medical records. The nurse also works closely with the anesthesia department in coordinating the patient’s needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Acts as patient advocate.

2. Practice appropriate telephone and patient triage skills, being aware of the need to balance quality care with efficient use of time and resources. 

3. Perform verbal assessment with patient prior to admission – in person or via telephone, communicating information to appropriate team members. 

4. Ensure pre-operative care requirements of patients are accomplished through use of the nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation 

5. Perform patient teaching/education as established by Truvsita 

6. Assess pertinent information, plan, implement, and document interventions and evaluate results. 

7. Maintain and promote patient’s safety by assessing physical and psychological needs. 

8. Respond to telephone inquires regarding expressed needs of the caller. 

9. Perform outbound follow-up calls as requested. 

10. Provide general health information. 

11. Refer caller to appropriate resources including medical/ambulatory services within established procedures and guidelines. 

12. Thoroughly document all call encounters utilizing manual and/or electronic information systems at the time of the call. 

13. Coordinate care and request/review required patient documents with physician offices in a timely manner. 

14. Alert anesthesia and Truvista management as appropriate of results of labs, physical assessment, or special needs of individual with medical problems – prior to date of surgery. 

15. Use effective communication techniques which adhere to common standards of courtesy. 

16. Answer inquiries in a timely and helpful manner.

17. Communicate arrival time and NPO instructions to patients as necessitated by procedures.

18. Communicates discharge care plan and physician instructions to patient and accompanying responsible adult as appropriate.

19. Attends staff meetings required and maintains compliance with educational requirements of job and/or license/certification.

20. Must work well with all staff, physicians, vendors, and especially peers. Willing to assist others when requested. Demonstrates cooperation and works as a team member.

21. Maintain pleasant and positive attitude.

22. Reports unusual occurrences and events in timely and accurate fashion and performs Process Improvements as needed.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Conserves resources and minimizes cost whenever possible.

2. Participates in quality assurance/improvement activities.

3. Accepts additional duties as requested and shows willingness to get involved in work place.

4. Participates and completes competency program as assigned and mentors staff as assigned.

5. Cross-train and assist in other nursing care activities as appropriate.

Requirements

Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.

Current licensure in the State of Michigan.

Current BLS Certification.

1 year from date of hire to obtain ACLS Certification

Ability to relate and work effectively with others.

Demonstrates skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards.

Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement.

Previous experience preferred.

Is aware of professional nursing standard and performs in accordance with them.
