Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for Preschool with Special Needs

Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at Apparo Academy, which caters to children with special needs. As an LPN in our preschool environment, you will play a vital role in providing medical care, support, and assistance to children with diverse special needs, ensuring their safety, well-being, and optimal participation in educational and social activities.

Key Responsibilities:
Medical Care:

Administer medication and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers. Monitor children's health status and provide immediate assistance in case of medical emergencies or illnesses.
Health Assessments:

Conduct health assessments for children upon enrollment and periodically thereafter. Maintain accurate health records and document any changes in health status or medical needs.
Health Education:

Educate staff members, parents, and caregivers on children's medical conditions, medication administration, and emergency procedures. Provide guidance on preventive health measures and promote a healthy environment within the preschool.
Individualized Care Plans:

Collaborate with healthcare professionals, educators, and parents to develop individualized care plans for children with special needs. Implement and monitor these plans to ensure the provision of appropriate medical care and support.
Supportive Services:

Assist children with special needs in activities of daily living, including feeding, toileting, and mobility, as necessary. Provide emotional support and comfort to children experiencing anxiety or distress.
Communication:

Maintain open and effective communication with parents, caregivers, and members of the interdisciplinary team regarding children's health concerns, progress, and any necessary modifications to care plans.
Safety Protocols:

Implement safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries within the preschool environment. Conduct regular safety assessments and address any potential hazards promptly.
Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with preschool staff members, including teachers, therapists, and administrators, to promote the holistic development and well-being of children with special needs. Participate in team meetings and contribute to interdisciplinary discussions on children's progress and needs.
Qualifications:
Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Georgia.
Experience working with children, preferably in a pediatric or educational setting.
Knowledge of common medical conditions and disabilities affecting children, as well as their associated treatments and interventions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, caregivers, and members of the interdisciplinary team.
Ability to remain calm and composed in emergency situations, with quick decision-making skills and the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.
Sensitivity to the unique needs and challenges of children with special needs, along with a compassionate and patient demeanor.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards in all aspects of job performance.
CPR certification and proficiency in basic first aid techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional certification or training in pediatric nursing or special education.
Experience working with children with a wide range of special needs, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, and physical disabilities.
Familiarity with assistive devices and adaptive equipment used by children with special needs.
Bilingual proficiency, especially in languages commonly spoken by families within the preschool community.
