The Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) provides high-quality, evidence-based mental health services to individuals, couples, families, and groups. This role encompasses comprehensive diagnostic assessments, individualized treatment planning, ongoing psychotherapy, and client advocacy. The LPC/LCPC works as a key member of an interdisciplinary team committed to promoting emotional and psychological wellness in diverse client populations.
The LCPC, due to their advanced licensure, may also assume supervisory or mentoring responsibilities over provisionally licensed clinicians or graduate interns.
POSITION SUMMARY EXPANDED:
Under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, (“The Unity Bill”) this position is considered a “Safety-sensitive position. “Safety-sensitive” is defined to include “any job that includes tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others.” Employees working in “safety-sensitive” roles are subject to this exception and subject to disciplinary action in the event of a positive test for marijuana or its metabolites.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience (more for LCPCs or supervisory roles).
Certification or specialized training in trauma, addiction, EMDR, DBT, play therapy, etc.
Experience with diverse client populations, including BIPOC, LGBTQ+, veterans, or those with complex trauma.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Active, unrestricted state licensure as an LPC or LCPC in Oklahoma.
Proof of all required License(s) and Certification(s) is due at time of hire.
MINIMUM/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
Master’s degree from an accredited program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or related field.
Demonstrated experience in providing mental health counseling and developing treatment plans.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in using Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other clinical documentation tools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
. Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis
Conduct comprehensive clinical intake assessments including mental status exams, psychosocial histories, risk assessments, and diagnostic evaluations using DSM-5 criteria.
Identify client needs, strengths, goals, and formulate accurate diagnoses.
Evaluate level of care needed, and assist in triage or referrals for crisis services, inpatient treatment, or specialized care when necessary.
Therapeutic Treatment & Counseling
Deliver psychotherapy using modalities tailored to the client’s presenting concerns and treatment goals. These may include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
Trauma-Focused CBT
Motivational Interviewing
EMDR (if certified)
Provide services to a wide demographic (children, adolescents, adults, families, couples), depending on training and experience.
Utilize a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approach at all times.
Maintain thorough and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency policy, state/federal law, and professional standards.
Complete progress notes, assessments, treatment plans, risk assessments, and discharge summaries using the agency’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and all state/federal mental health laws.
Collaboration & Case Management
Work collaboratively with other clinicians, case managers, medical providers, and support staff to coordinate holistic care.
Attend clinical team meetings, case conferences, and peer review/supervision sessions.
Refer clients to appropriate community resources for needs outside the scope of therapy (e.g., housing, legal, financial, medication).
Ethics, Licensing, and Professional Development
Practice in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the American Counseling Association (ACA), National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), and applicable state licensure board.
Maintain active state licensure (LPC or LCPC), and fulfill continuing education requirements.
Attend mandatory training on safety, risk management, HIPAA, cultural competence, and agency-specific protocols.
Supervision and Leadership (for LCPCs)
Provide individual and/or group supervision to provisionally licensed counselors (LPC-A/Interns) as approved by state licensing requirements.
Contribute to staff training, development workshops, and clinical consultations.
Offer mentorship to newer clinicians, supporting skill development and professional growth.
